Sitka Fine Arts Camp Volunteer Newsletter

Greetings!

10,964 volunteer hours.  This is a really impressive number, but
what does it mean? Individual people are putting in each and every one of these hours. Here are some ways to look at it: 10,964 hours is equivalent to one person working full-time (no vacation) for more than 5 years. Or a team of five working full-time every day for a year. Ten people working straight for 6 months. "Imagine what you could get done on your house with ten people working for that long!"

We can't start to put a value on what this time means to us, but you can imagine can't you? 10,964 hours. What's your time worth? If you start doing math, the numbers are jaw-dropping!

You, volunteers, have done work that will impact the efficiency and livability of the campus for years.

How do we want the living spaces on campus to feel? What changes needed to happen to make rooms on campus inviting and comfortable for anyone that walks into them? Can we make the current systems more efficient? We have had volunteers working with incredible vision and foresight to make the campus feel like a home.

What do the grounds add to the campus? You have maybe seen someone quietly (or not so quietly) trimming, mowing, planting and giving some much-needed love to the gardens and grass.

How do we keep volunteers full of steam for the projects on work days? Maybe you have noticed people, week after week, bringing delicious food and snacks to the weekly work parties.

Have you seen someone washing walls, hauling trash, moving furniture, painting rooms, and maybe doing that job that you sometimes forget even has to be done by a person (like pulling staples, replacing outlet covers, or finding enough garbage cans for the buildings.)

Maybe you know the answers to these questions. Maybe you know the people that have been doing these jobs, and maybe you are one of the people doing these jobs!

Thank you to everyone that has put your time, sweat and heart into repairs and improvements around campus!

With your efforts , we have accomplished so much more than anyone thought was possible.

Thank you also to all of the groups who have come to help and not signed in individually and to anyone that was inadvertently not included in this list.

This list was compiled from our volunteer sign in sheets. Please blame mistakes on the handwriting of the individual, and not me.

(Please, don't be shy to correct me!)

Thank you to all contributing businesses!
