Sitka Fine Arts Camp Volunteer Newsletter

Greetings!

This is a big week. The end of April marks the end of our first three months on campus. Saturday will be a day that we can all come together, celebrate the accomplishments that have been made and bring energy to the next push of work that needs to be done.

This week, work continued on the fire escapes as we keep safety our number one priority.  More roof work was done, this time on Whitmore, a future dorm space (thanks to Mark Guillory), and Wurster Cottage.  Whitmore floors met their match where Erika Apathy did a great job chipping up old tile. Thad Poulson continued work on the gazebo, that will serve as a welcoming and information resource for visitors to the campus. One Kellogg apartment was completely prepared for its first new resident to move in this week. (Curtains and all!)

Thanks to Peter Apathy and Chris Gale the tables in the Sweetland cafeteria have been repaired and will be ready for a hungry group of volunteers this weekend. (Remember SeaMart will be providing lunch!)

We're calling Saturday 100 Volunteers Day, but why not shatter that goal? We have had more than 330 individuals contribute time already, and we're excited to see a bunch of new faces. We have spent this week putting together work kits and coordinating project leaders. Bring your work clothes and we'll bring ours!

Contributions with a purpose

I had breakfast this week with a locally-minded member of the community. Motivated by her interest, I was happy to tell her that we are spending locally, putting money back into the community. Our most significant and necessary purchases, including mattresses and building materials of every sort, have been made right in town. At the end of our conversation she surprised me by handing me an envelope, containing a contribution to be used on local, quality materials. You can bet that is how it will be used!

Thank you to all contributing businesses!
