Sitka Fine Arts Camp Volunteer Newsletter

Greetings!

The weather in Sitka this week has been absolutely BEAUTIFUL and what perfect timing with Spring Break. We had volunteers really dig in this week and get some major projects done.

With a huge thanks to Dave and a crew from the Coast Guard, the roof on Wurster (one of the houses in the HillCrest neighborhood) was replaced during the week. And on Saturday, another big crew of volunteers tackled the the roof on Kellogg. This is so important for maintaining these buildings!

North Pacific, the summer home for camp faculty, is beginning to be made-over with quite a bit of work and a little bit of paint. Thanks to the decorators and plasterers for their vision and surgeon-like skills that are restoring this building!

The nice weather has inspired quite a bit of grounds work, starting with a group on Saturday and continuing into the week. Amazing numbers of High School and Middle School campers have been getting the flume flowing through campus again, by clearing discarded tires and wheelbarrow loads of organic debris.

This week we will continue work on North Pacific and the campus grounds. High School campers are invited to come out again this Thursday afternoon and Middle School campers on Friday for afternoon work parties from 1:00pm-3:30pm. Bring all of your friends! Elementary School campers are welcome to come either day with a parent or adult. This week's work will culminate with a Pizza Party for student volunteers at 5pm on campus on Friday!

All volunteers are invited to join us on Saturday for loads of productivity and fun. Lunch has been getting more delicious each week and will be provided to volunteers by volunteers.

Thanks everyone for your help! Wendy will be back from break next week.

We have started a once-in-a-lifetime project together:

Hannah Guggenheim has captured the beginnings of this SJ revitalization project. I think this video is a really great way to show what we have started.

Let's share it with as many people as we can! Show your friends and pass it around through email, facebook or webpages.

Thanks for the ongoing support,
Laura Schmidt
