Sitka Fine Arts Camp Volunteer Newsletter

Greetings!

This was a week of moving forward for the work being done on the SJ campus.  Last weekend Sweetland Hall was used to host a overnight event for YoungLife!  It sounds like it turned out great.

Despite the wet and rainy weather on Saturday, a group of dedicated volunteers got a lot of work done.  Mat and Eric put in long days, starting with uncovering the first windows on campus.  The volunteer room is now much brighter (and well equipped with tables to host the volunteer lunches!)  Loads and loads of books have been moved out of Fraser, sorted and shelved in the buildings that will house corresponding classes.   The ceramics building is looking absolutely beautiful and work continues to be done on the darkroom.

As many of you know this project is primarily run and supported by volunteers right now.  I want to say thank you to all of you that have been involved.  We have a group of especially wonderful people making up planning committees.  These individuals have put in an inspiring amount of time to decide what and how things need to get done on campus.

As part of the comprehensive plan, we have broken the campus into different zones.  Our plan is to tackle projects by zone as we move through the campus.

To move forward, and to take full advantage of the work that our volunteer committees have done, we will of course need your help in the weeks to come.  Some of the projects we will be working on include scraping and prepping windows for paint, prepping bathrooms for caulk, creating "work kits" for upcoming projects, and spiffing up Rasmuson lobby.  If you are interested in anything in particular, please let me know!  We think this is an incredible story and we want you to feel our excitement in inviting you to be part of it.
