Sitka Fine Arts Camp Volunteer Newsletter

Greetings!

We had another productive Saturday on campus this last week! Thanks to everybody who was able to drop by to help, and thanks to those of you who showed up at Allen auditorium Saturday morning to give the old desks, chairs, file cabinets and other sundry items a chance at a new life.

We are slowly whittling down the mountains of junk and recycling, and we're beginning the process of redefining spaces.  Thanks to Michele Freidman and crew for diving in to the ceramics department, and thanks Ann and Bridget (and Abigail)  for scraping away the many layers of grease behind the stoves and on the hoods in the Sweetland kitchen.  Thanks Tracy and Jane for a great lunch, and thanks Sarah for the cupcakes.  As usual thanks Eric, Matt and Ted for being there 24/7.  Oh, and did you all know that Stan Barge is slowly but surely going through every computer left on SJ in order to find out what can be reused!  A slightly overwhelming idea to someone who can hardly send an email.

We were lucky enough to have 35 or so high school jazz musicians unexpectedly in town on Monday, and they all showed up on campus ready to work.  They did a great job of washing Sweetland windows, moving Art books to their new location in Yaw,  cleaning out storage in Rasmussen an generally just being a big help.

Don't worry though, they left us plenty of work, so if you're looking for a fun family activity on Saturday, feel free to drop by.  I'm sure we can find something for you to do: there's still work to do in the ceramics lab, lots of Art and photography books in Yaw to organize and shelve, and there's still a lot of cleaning and shuffling to do.   A fabulous lunch will be served, and all are welcome.
