Greetings!,
Saturday before last was a thrilling day. The ambition was grand: to lower and relocate a pole barn in the space of just a few days. By the end of the day Saturday, the metal from the walls and roof was stacked neatly in piles, as was the lumber from the vast majority of the framing and ceiling joists. The building went from intact to broken down to the barest of frames in the space of one Saturday. It was truly inspiring progress.
The volunteer effort was unlike any seen this fall/winter season. A total of twenty six volunteers rallied over the course of the day in weather hovering around thirty degrees fahrenheit, cloudless, stunning, lovely, and cool. A conservative estimate places volunteer hours logged for that Saturday and the two days following at well over 150. Thanks to James Poulson and Connie Kreiss for the photos. More images from the project below:

The barn will be reconstructed in the near future in SFAC's maintenance compound.

Young Performers Theater, Dispatch 3
The paint on the set was dry. The prop tables were full. Behind the red curtain a small army of jittery young actors brimmed with excitement, fidgeting with the sleeves of their costume, or going over their lines one final time. On the other side of the curtain the auditorium quivered with equal excitement. And then the lights faded away, the curtains opened, and the strains of quiet flute music filled the hall. Each young actor quieted his or her nerves, stepped out onto that stage and performed with brio.
This past weekend the Odess Theater in Allen Hall came alive with the magical and mysterious land East of the Sun and West of the Moon. Our two casts, 32 young people in total, gave five magnificent performances to over 400 people from around the community. We performed for a large portion of the Keet Gooshi Heen Elementary School, as well as the entire SEER school and all of Baranof Elementary. And though the theater now stands empty, it is a blank canvas, just waiting for our next Young Performers Theater production. Be on the lookout for Annie at the end of February!
