In other news, it's amazing what we can do when we set to something together. The first Saturday of November was a Volunteer Day for the ages. We had such a time on the second floor of Whitmore Hall tearing out carpet and setting jackhammer to several inches of concrete, hauling from the bathroom around four tons of material in five gallon buckets. Photos below:

We at the camp love these epic days so much (and we're sure the same can be said for the volunteers who come out week after week) that we thought we would have another this coming Saturday. What's in store? Not a barn raising, but a barn lowering. The Sheldon Jackson campus has been gifted a pole barn from the Forest Service, and we'll be hauling pieces from the Forest Service compound out Halibut Point Road to a site near the maintenance buildings on the SJ campus.
Convening at the SJ Maintenance Building at 9AM, we'll leave for the worksite shortly thereafter. If you arrive after the trucks have departed, you can join us at the Forest Service Compound which is just before Kramer Avenue, and before Sandy Beach out Halibut Point road (on the right).
There will be a variety of low to high intensity tasks, and anyone is welcome at any time. We'll have a cherry picker and a forklift, and will need volunteers to unscrew, unbolt, label and take photos (the last two to facilitate putting the structure back together on the SJ campus). We'll load the disassembled components of the barn onto trucks, then move them over to SJ.
Don't worry, the barnraising will take place later - we think it will be quite enough to take one barn apart in one day. For lunch, we'll have pizza delivered to the worksite for a quick bite. If you would like to bring additional food (desserts, salads, etc.), please feel free to do so.
