Unpack & Unwind

Relax in the country this summer and head on over to visit Burke!  Choices abound whether you prefer a log cabin or a night at the Inn.

Enjoy a log cabin stay at GNS Properties in East Burke.  The Burke Cabin has 3 bedrooms, a loft with a full size futon, 2 full bathrooms, a full kitchen and laundry center.  The Forester cabin has 1 bedroom with a queen bed, a loft area with two twin beds, 1 bathroom and a full kitchen area.  Both have Satellite TV and WiFi access plus an outdoor shower, grill and fire pit, a bike washing station, a bike rack and secure storage.

Located amidst the Kingdom Trails XC trails is the Inn at Mountain View Farm featuring elegant rooms, spacious suites and even a farmhouse rental.  Enjoy the pastoral views from this 440 acre farm and be sure to say hey to the horses, donkeys, pigs and other farm critters who live at the Inn's Animal Sanctuary.

If the whole gang is coming to town, the East View vacation rental offers 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, a full kitchen, living room, bike storage and 10 acres of trails on site to explore.   And the dog is welcome, too!

Just a quick drive from Burke are the May Brook Cottages located on beautiful Crystal Lake.  One and two bedroom cottages with kitchens and screened in porches are offered with rates starting at only $395 per week.  Enjoy the beach life right from the front door!

Those Independent Vermontahs!

Independence Day.  It's more than just fireworks and cotton candy.  Some might say it's a day to celebrate the independent spirit and there's no shortage of those in Vermont.   'Round these parts, there are quite a few truly unique artists and craftspeople who embody that spirit and individualism.

Just north of East Burke Village is the home, farm & studio of Sam & Weeza Sanderson, completely self taught artisans who harvest Vermont hardwoods and hand-turn them into beautiful one-of-a-kind bowls.  Take some time to visit them and see their creations.

Amidst the flooring options at Chuck's Flooring, you'll also find the abstract paintings of the store's owner, Chuck Guest.  Chuck's paintings are created on stretchers made from reclaimed Vermont wood and the images reflect a love of nature and the ocean.  He's won many awards at shows throughout New England and elsewhere.

A member of the Vermont Guild of Furniture Makers, Doug Clarner crafts heirloom furniture of all kinds from tables to bed frames.  Solid hardwoods, traditional joinery, unique details and subtle curves are elements found at the core of his designs.

In nearby Sutton, High Beams features gorgeous, one-of-a-kind lighting that reflects the natural world.  Lamps are made from copper or brass with shades that include botanicals, leaves or petals.

Just across the road in Sutton is Tara Lynn Scheidet, an eco-conscious fashion designer who creates stunning & whimsical wedding gowns and outfits made from natural, organic fibers and hand-crafted and sewn on a vintage sewing machine.

David Tanych and Meryl Lebowitz are husband & wife Artists well known in the area - she for her oil paintings of local landscapes and people (sometimes on canvas, sometimes on violins or scrap metal) and David for his larger than life sculptures of ordinary objects like nuts & bolts.

Pikku is a Finnish word meaning tiny or small, but here in Burke it is the name of a small company that makes fun and fanciful gift wrap and paper notions.  Their paper creations feature hand-screen printed and letterpress designs in fresh colors.

Francesca DeLorme creates intricate mosaic masterpieces, jewelry and wall pieces from recycled materials.  As she puts it, "This art is trash!'  It may have started that way, but her finished products are full of imagination and beauty.
