The YaY! Area Newsletter
December 20th-25th
CONNECT
I am sure there are a lot of really great things to do this weekend.  I am positive that there are places to go to see and be seen.  I am clear that on any given day of the year the YaY! Area has many things to offer in terms of entertainment, music, shopping, etc.  And I can tell you that this week, I am just not feeling it.  Like many of you I watched in horror as the events of Connecticut unfolded via the news. I ran to my phone to call my niece and nephews, very close to the same age of those beautiful children so brutally taken from this earth too soon, just to hear their tiny voices.  And I have spent the last week hugging my friends, calling my family and being grateful for the people who are in my life.  So this week, in this newsletter, instead of focusing on where we can go out and what we can do in the YaY! Area to have fun, I am going to give YOU some options on where you can go and what you can do for others.

I will be back to my regularly scheduled programing next week but until then... I wish you and your loved ones a very happy holidays.  Hold each other close, love up on one another and give thanks for the life you are living.

XOXO

Miz Chris

WAYS TO GIVE

QWOCMAP Fundraising Drive

Support QWOCMAP because all of us, queer women of color, gender nonconforming and transgender people of color all have stories to tell. We want to tell the stories of our peoples. We need to tell the stories of the social justice issues we face every day. We also dream of the future, and the stories that we will tell as we change the world. It's not easy to ask for money so that QWOCMAP can nurture the stories of our communities. Yet QWOCMAP Films are more than stories, they are possibility, they are hope, they are love. Please help QWOCMAP meet our goal of $50,000 by contributing today.

AtOne Warm Coat, we have a simple message. We'd like everyone to be aware of the growing need for warm coats - and it's easy to help solve the problem. It's as easy as donating a coat or organizing a coat drive. However, we sometimes hear from friends who have donated their last extra coat! Or we hear from people who want to help, but are unable to organize coat drives in their communities.

If this is familiar, we invite you to consider helping in another way: by making a contribution to One Warm Coat in support of the work we do. This year, through a Text to Give program, the Mobile Giving Foundation is making financial contributions extra easy. To donate $10 to One Warm Coat, text the word WARM to 80100. $10 will be charged to your mobile phone account. (Message and data rates may apply.) A direct contribution can also be made through our website, where contributors can choose from a variety of donation methods.

We are deeply appreciative of the help we receive, in its many forms. We thank you for your continued friendship and support, and look forward to working with you to warm communities...one coat at a time... into 2013 and beyond.

A Childs Wish Charity works together with Bay Area Kids Charity and the Simoneon Autism Center. Our mission is to help struggling families enjoy each day just a little bit more. With your help and support, together we can make a positive impact on local families and children in need.

Christmas can be a very stressful time of year for single parents just trying to put food on the table. We try to relieve some of that stress by sponsoring Toy Drives and through our Adopt a Family for Christmas program. We provide new toys and new clothes to local families. We need more local businesses to help.

We are funded entirely by private donations from sponsors like you and our Car Donation Program . By donating a car, truck or other vehicle, you are helping a local child or family right here, in our community!

Please feel free to call (408) 508-5700 with any questions you may have about how you can help.

30 Days of Brown Boi 2012

This is our BIG annual fundraiser where we ask our community of brown bois, allies, and friends to support our work by giving! Leadership is about taking risks, BIG ones and we are building a community of leaders that are willing to take those risks together, creating a tipping point that has the capacity to become a tidal wave that shifts our culture for the better. Each of us has pledged to rasise $100 or more to help support this work. Set Your BIG, BOLD Goal Today and Join In!

SAN FRANCISCO FOOD BANK

This holiday season, our goal is to raise $275,000 and 450,000 pounds of food - enough to provide food for more than 1.2 million meals. But we can't do it without you! Start a Food & Fund Drive and we'll make it easy to get your friends, family, business or organization involved.

You can even create your own donation webpage and raise funds online. Donations go farther with a virtual drive - because for every $1 donated, the Food Bank can distribute $6 worth of food.

Press your nose up against Macy's Holiday Windows featuring adoptable animals from the San Francisco SPCA this holiday season. The adoptable cats and dogs will be at Macy's from November 16 through the holidays until New Year's Day. Take home your own bundle of joy from the SF SPCA adoption pop-up on Macy's Main Floor.

Over the past seven years, the Holiday Windows have helped the SF SPCA raise nearly $400,000 and find homes for over 2,300 animals. Thank you to our friends at Macy's for their commitment to helping us find loving homes for San Francisco's cats and dogs.

Can you imagine a world where no animal is homeless? We can. The San Francisco SPCA is committed to ending animal abandonment in San Francisco by 2020. Find out how we are making it happen and how you can help by visiting sfspca.org/vision2020
