 PIANO CLASSES  for Young Musicians

Semester Two for the PRELUDE Piano Program is underway.  Malinda Novack has nine new Music in Me kiddos in   her 3 - 5 year old classes.  Welcome to all!

Take a peek at the new study from the University at Buffalo Graduate School of Education that shows a link between music activities and the development of reading and writing skills in children.

We at MWA are proud to be part of this important role in the development of young children.
"Music is the space between the notes."
Claude Debussy

The Theme and Variation is a familiar form of composition among many composers.  Take a listen to Mozart's 12 well-known variations on a familiar tune "Ah, vous dirai-je, maman"  KV 265 performed by Cara Haskil. Name that tune!  Another equally famous set of variations is by Beethoven. Listen to Daniel  Barenboim play Sonata No. 12 in  A-flat Major, Op. 26, Andante

SUMMER 2013 and FALL RE-ENROLLMENT
It's that time of year again!  Re-enrollment packets will be distributed during the Musicales. Those not participating in these events will receive the packets in the mail. Forms will be available in the studio waiting areas and and will also available on the website. Please return the Summer and Fall Enrollment Forms by April 30.

The Summer Session at MWA offers lessons and classes June 3 - August 11. Enroll for lessons the weeks you are in town; if uncertain, give us your best guess!

MWA has a three-hour instructional minimal participation during summer:  three 60-minute lessons for those busy or in and out of town; four 45-minute lessons; or, six 30-minute lessons.  Some students have more time during the summer and enroll for all 10 weeks!

Two important forms are in your Re-Enrollment packets!  Be sure to return a signed copy of the 2013-14 MWA Studio Policy to your instructor.  If you need to update your Emergency Contact information, now is the time to notify the studio!
PRACTICE for PENNIES
How many pennies can Penny, the Practice Pig, hold?  Not quite 7,500! On Monday, February 11, Penny the Pig was so full she could not hold one more penny. She was extremely heavy.  Major surgery, using a kitchen knife, was necessary in order to remove the pennies which were tightly crammed in her belly. The pennies extraction involved intermittent stabbing, jabbing with occasionally shaking that continued over a period of two hours. A big thank you to Emma West, assistant surgeon, for holding and shaking while Carolyn Inabinet stabbed and jabbed during this Monday afternoon procedure. Follow up care recommended by Chase Bank involves bagging $50 worth of pennies (that's 5,000 pennies per bag) - which is better than rolling!  Do you know how much 5,000 pennies weigh? There will be multiple bags to return to the Chase Bank merchant window. Currently, lab monitors are busy counting pennies on a daily basis. MWA is on it's fifth box of pennies - there are 2,500 pennies per box.  Practice for Pennies ends on Friday, March 1.   It so happens that Safeway is sponsoring a "Paws for Love" campaign during the month of February.  Do you think MWA will go over 20,000 pennies by this date to contribute to "Paws for Love"? Maybe Safeway needs those bags of pennies....
