Schedule Changes
A reminder that some changes that will take effect on Thursday, August 25th may impact your student's schedule.  These schedule changes are the result of our increased student enrollment numbers and the addition of new class sections in order to reduce overcrowding in certain classrooms.

Please be aware that every effort was made to minimize the impact on student schedules. Please be patient with us as we work through this process, and know that all of our students will continue to be taught by highly qualified, dedicated teachers.
PTSA Open House/Curriculum Night
Open House / Curriculum Night
Tuesday, August 30th from 6:30 - 8:30

Parkview will host its Fall Open House/Curriculum Night on Tuesday, August 30th from 6:30 to 8:30 PM.  Curriculum Night is an opportunity for our parents to meet their child's teachers by following their schedule throughout the evening beginning with the child's 1st period.  Each class period is long enough to allow a curriculum review by the teacher.

This is a wonderful opportunity to gain a glimpse of what your child will be experiencing this year in their courses at Parkview High School.  Students will be provided a course schedule with a detailed plan for the evening on Monday to bring home for you to use on Tuesday evening.

Please ask them for this schedule.  We hope to see you on Tuesday, August 30th for our Fall Open House/Curriculum Night.

Attendance Reminder
Students who arrive to school after 7:45 AM will be counted absent for 1st period.  A tardy pass (STAMP) is only given from 7:22 AM to 7:45 AM.

Regular attendance at school is important for academic success.  Key information regarding attendance and Parkview's attendance policy is below. This information is also accessible in the student agenda.  Please contact the attendance office if you have any questions regarding the attendance policy.
  • All absences, as well as check-in and check-outs, must have written documentation within two (2) days of the absence in order for it to be excused.
  • Documentation should include the student's name, ID number, reason for the absence and a phone number where the parent/guardian can be reached.
  • Students who need to check out of school during the school day should bring a note to the attendance office in the morning between 7:00 AM and 7:24 AM. The note should include the student's name, ID number, reason for the check-out and a phone number where the parent/guardian can be reached for verification.
  • Last checkout from the attendance office is 1:30 PM.
  • A doctor/dentist note is required for all appointments requiring a student to check-in late or check-out early from school.
  • There are NO CHECK-OUTS DURING LUNCH
  • Students who become ill at school need to go to the clinic.  The clinic will contact the parent/guardian to make arrangements for checking out of school.  Please remember student cell phone use is only allowed before/after school and during lunch.
Thank you for your assistance with Parkview's attendance policies and procedures.

Foreign Language News
The Foreign Langauge department is happy to welcome Mr. Keith Toda to its team of Latin teachers.  Mr. Toda spent 17 years teaching at that "other school", Brookwood High School, and is well known among his language teaching colleagues as an outstanding teacher.

He recently finished his Specialist Degree in Instructional Technology from Kennesaw State University. He is nationally known for his work in the second language approach used by many in our FL department known as Comprehensible Input. He writes a widely read blog, Todally Comprehensible Latin, sharing with teachers the many ways to make use of this approach.

Recently the Foreign Language Association of Georgia declared Mr. Toda's presentation at the 2015 conference one of the "Best of FLAG" presentations and has been invited to present it again at the Southern Conference on Language Teaching in Orlando this fall.  Our Latin program and our whole Foreign Language Department will be enriched with Mr. Toda's gifts and contributions.

Join us in welcoming him to the Panther Jungle.

Parkview Latin teacher Rachel Ash completed her Master of Arts in Latin at the University of Florida on August 9, 2016.

Congratulations to Rachel for this significant accomplishment.

Technology Student Association (TSA)

The Technology Student Association (TSA) at Parkview High School kicks off the year by introducing its new theme, "Defining Your Future." Through integrating science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) into co-curricular activities, TSA members can extend their learning beyond the classroom. Students are exposed to leadership experiences and learning opportunities while also developing their communication skills. The State Leadership Conference held from March 9th to March 11th demonstrated the superiority of Parkview's TSA.  The chapter emerged as the three time state victor, earning them recognition all across the state.

This summer, Parkview High School attended the National TSA Conference at the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center in Nashville, Tennessee from June 28th to July 2nd. Through tremendous hard work, commitment, and months of preparation, the following students placed as semi-finalists in these events:

5th
Daniel Webb, Seth Carter, Steven Nguyen, Nikhil Malani, Nathan Cargill, Justin Chen, Draven Green (H), Kevin Le (H)

Animatronics - Participants (one team per chapter) demonstrate knowledge of mechanical and control systems by designing, fabricating, and controlling an animatronics device that will communicate, entertain, inform, demonstrate and/or illustrate a concept.

7th
Kyle Yang
Promotional Graphics - Participants (two individuals per chapter, one entry each) develop and submit electronically a graphic design that can be used to promote participation in TSA-related interests.

9th
Brent Bessemer
Technology Bowl Written - Participants (one team of three individuals per chapter) complete a written, objective test in order to qualify for oral question/response, head-to-head team competition.

10th
Taabish Basaria, Joshua Walker, Brent Bessemer, Jeremy Levin, Kevin Le, Justin Chen (H)
Engineering Design - Participants (one team of three to five individuals per chapter, one entry per team) work to design and fabricate a device that will meet the specific needs of a person with a disability.

Parkview's officer team is excited for the upcoming school year and the challenges that follow. They have already prepared their Chapter Program of Work and registered their officers for the Chapter Officer Retreat for Excellence (CORE) located in Clayton, GA. Through the conference, the officers will be able to develop their leadership skills and learn how to carry out their individual duties.
