PTSA Survey: Miss Parkview Fundraiser
| Parkview Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) is a not-for-profit organization which funds many items around our school and community including SAT Prep books for homeless students, scholarships for Parkview seniors, the document cameras used to grade papers, light tables for photography students, stands in the band room, Baccalaureate night, Prom Promise, and student clubs, i.e., Diversity Club and Save/SADD. The financial future of this program is at a turning point. Currently, PTSA funds ALL of the budget with one fundraiser, Miss Parkview Scholarship Pageant. Miss Parkview has been a Parkview tradition for 30 years. It coaches young women in interview skills, self confidence, poise and public speaking, while entertaining the audience will fun music and dance from young men.
In an effort to continue collecting community interest and support, PTSA has created a brief survey regarding Miss Parkview and fundraising at PHS. Please take this survey and help us spread the word.
THIS SURVEY IS FOR STUDENTS, PARENTS, STAFF AND INTERESTED COMMUNITY MEMBERS.
To minimize duplicate responses, you must log into Google to complete it, however, your contact information will not be collected unless you chose to share it. Thanks for your time and commitment at this pivotal point of fundraising and the future financial success of PTSA at Parkview High School. Amy Ney & Duane Stanford, PHS PTSA Co-Presidents

Performing Arts Spring Season
|
Parkview Performing Arts presents our spring season.
The Parkview theatre program will be busy this spring. First up, we have our 24th Annual Short Attention Span Theatre, an evening of student directed short plays, scenes and songs presented on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Feb. 25 - 27. In addition to the student-directed selections, we will also present our One Act Play Competition entry, the delightful Jerry Finnegan's Sister, at the Friday and Saturday evening performances. Curtain goes up at 7:30 PM and tickets are $5.00 available at the door.
In March, we will present two productions, Thornton Wilder's Pulitzer Prize-winning classic Our Town and Shakespeare's hilarious comedy, Much Ado About Nothing. Our Town will be presented on Thursday and Saturday, March 17 and 19, at 7:30 PM. Much Ado About Nothing will perform on Friday, March 18, at 7:30 PM, and Sunday, March 20, at 2:30 PM. Tickets will be $7.00 at the door.
Finally, in April we will present our spring musical, The Mystery of Edwin Drood. Based on the last, unfinished novel of Charles Dickens, Drood invites the audience to decide the outcome of the musical mystery by voting on the identity of various characters and the ultimate outcome of the plot. Every show is different and no one, not even the actors, knows how it will turn out until the audience decides. Performances are Friday and Saturday, April 22 and 23, at 7:30 PM, and Sunday, April 24, at 2:30 PM. Tickets will be $10.00 at the door.

Track and Field Members Out Perform
|
One year following the annual Relay meet's cancellation due to snow and ice, Parkview High School defended the Big Orange Jungle en route to their victory at the eponymous Big Orange Relays. In a field of 13 teams, Parkview's men won the overall team title in a narrow victory over rival Archer.
The running kicked off with Parkview's 4 x 1600m assembly of Christian Corsello, Tom Buff, Jeremy Lightner, and Jared Causey who held off a strong McIntosh team to win the event. Later, the boys' 800m sprint medley relay featuring team captain Amir Harris, Justin Long, Demarius Smith, and Idris Abdullah shattered the meet record to claim the victory. That relay is currently the #2 ranked split in the country.
Also contributing to the winning cause were Cameron Chambers (2nd, high Jump), Vincent Papotto (2nd, pole vault), and the 4x400m relay team which finished runner-up (Matthew Musey, Colin Leatham, Justin Long, and Amir Harris).
The Lady Panthers claimed a commanding 20 point victory over Newton and 13 other squads. The 1600m sprint medley relay (SMR) also broke the meet record for the event and featured Leah Disher, Jessica Moody (captain), Nina Nkem (captain), and Jania Williams. The ladies' effort, currently the national #1, also stamps them as the 5th fastest 1600m SMR in the history of Gwinnett County and is just outside the top 10 all-time mark in Georgia's storied track and field history. That same group also won the 4 x 400m relay to close out the meet.
Moody, Nkem, and Williams joined Jaenise Jones to claim 1st place in the 800m SMR to contribute another 10 points towards the winning cause. Kadie Rogers won the pole vault with a leap of 9 feet to notch another victory for the Lady Panthers. Also chipping in were the girls' Distance Medley Relay (Emma Allison, Jamie Freeman, Alex Sparks, and Melody Weiler) with their 2nd place finish.
The 4 x 100m shuttle hurdle relay team of Jones, Adele Henderson, Caitlin Cesar, and Samira Allen finished second, and Williams and Sophia Martin tied for second place in the high jump. Abby Everett placed 2nd in the pole vault, and Destiny Beckham claimed 2nd in the long jump.
All the heavy hitters of Parkview return to action on Friday evening, March 4th as they look to defend The Jungle again at the annual Need For Speed Invitational under the lights.

Thespian Society
|
Congratulations to our talented Thespians.
At the recent Georgia State Thespian Conference held in Columbus, Georgia in early February, several students were recognized with superior ratings in individual events and are among a very select group of Georgia students invited to perform at the International Thespian Festival in Lincoln, Nebraska in June. Juniors Sean Anderson and Roman Banks received top scores for their performance of "On the Right Track" from the Stephen Schwartz musical Pippin. Also receiving an invitation to perform at the festival, seniors Julia Byrne and Keaton Law were recognized for their superior performance in the duet acting category with their scene from David Auburn's drama Proof. In addition, senior Julie Wang's musical solo "Someday" from The Wedding Singer received high excellent ratings as did junior Sophia Dhanani's solo acting performance, monologues from Tomorrow's Wish and Rabbit Hole. Congratulations to these outstanding representatives of Parkview performing arts.
