CELEBRATE 90 YEARS OF ROGER PAGE

 Saddleback Maine will be hosting a celebration to mark the 90th Birthday of one of its founders and life-long proponent of skiing in Maine, Roger Page. The event is open to the public and will be held at the Base Lodge in the Fireplace Room on Friday, March 14th from 4:30 - 6:30 pm.
"Roger Page has had a profound impact in Rangeley and at Saddleback - while most people might not be aware of it, his influence affects us every day," said Jim Quimby, Mountain Operations Manager at Saddleback. The Birthday Party will feature a cash bar and appetizers.
TELEMARK INVASION SAT, MARCH 8
The 10th Annual Telemark Invasion is Saturday, March 8 all day. Free Demos, Free Clinics for all levels, Vendors, the L.L. Bean "Bootmobile," and live entertainment with The Dean Machine in the Pub après ski. Enter the Freeride Tele competition in the Casablanca Glades: the "Knee Dipping Tree Fairy Challenge" at 1:00. Release of liability required.
FIRST PARK SHARK EVENT: BIG AIR IS MARCH 9
The Park Shark Series  competition kicks off March 9th with the BIG AIR competition. Register in the lobby from 9 - Noon. Points will be awarded in the first of this three part series which also includes the Rail Jam on Mar 14, (postponed from Feb 21), and Slopestyle on March 23. Prizes provided by untracked.com.

At the MARA (Maine Alpine Racing Assoc) U12-14 State Qualifier Giant Slalom held at Sunday River on March 1-2, over 100 young alpine ski racers representing 6 different ski clubs from Maine resorts participated. Our Saddleback Ski Club, under the Direction of Coaches Ron Bonnevie and Jon Adkins, again had success. On Saturday, Angus Christie placed FIRST in U12 boys and Zane Reservitz placed 7th in U14 boys. Three athletes from SBSC have qualified to represent Maine in the 2014 Francis Piche Invitational Championship to be held March 14-16 at Gunstock Mountain Resort. They are Zane Reservitz (U14 boys), Angus Chirstie (U12 boys) and Holly Reid (U12 girls). Go Saddleback!!

The next Friday Night Lights Rail Jam is Friday, March 14th from 4-6 PM in the Freerider Terrain Park. Music and fun after hours under the lights. This will also count as the Rail Jam event in the Park Shark Series, (postponed from Feb 21) with points awarded.

Saddleback Ski Club will host an Open Giant Slalom on Sunday March 9. There will be two runs with timing for all ages on the Gray Ghost trail starting near the T-bar entrance. Register from 9-11AM in the lobby of the base lodge - fee is $10.00 per person; your fee benefits the club. The Race will start at 12:00 with the second run immediately following completion of first. Awards will be presented on the deck at base lodge 1/2 hr after completion of race. Release of liability required.

Four Saddleback instructors have earned Professional Ski Instructor of America (PSIA) and American Association of Snowboard Instructors (AASI) certifications. SKI PATROL AUCTION SAT MAR 15
This year's Annual Saddleback Ski Patrol Auction and Reunion is March 15th. The auction benefits the efforts of our Ski Patrol and will include Lodging packages, beautiful handcrafted items, and a Season's Pass! Silent bidding on selected items goes on all day; the live auction begins après ski in the Pub. The Saddleback Ski patrol is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization; show your support with your bids or click HERE to donate to the auction. Reunion brunch for returning patrollers served at 9:30 a.m. in the Swig n' Smelt. Enjoy displays and informational tables in the base lodge regarding forestry, land preservation work, fisheries, hiking & canoe trails, & all the good work being done by volunteers & non-profit boards throughout our great state. Groups represented include the Maine Forest Service, Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, the High Peaks Alliance, Fly Fishing in Maine, the Rangeley Lakes Heritage Trust and more. Barbecue on deck (weather permitting) begins at 11:30 AM.
