SADDLEBACK SKIER ACHIEVES HIGHEST RANKING IN MAINE ALPINE RACING ASSOC.

RANGELEY - SADDLEBACK SKIER ACHIEVES HIGHEST RANKING IN MAINE ALPINE RACING ASSOC.

Holly Reid and Angus Christie, members of the Saddleback Ski Club (SBSC), earned places on the podium for the first two Maine Alpine Racing Association (MARA) qualifiers held at Sugarloaf January 19-20.

Reid placed 1st and 2nd in the two Slalom races and is currently ranked 1st in the state in the U-12 girls category. Christie placed 3rd in one of the Slalom races and is currently ranked 7th in the state in the U-12 boys category. Their winning times were based on the combined times of two runs for each race.

Under the direction of Head Coach Ron Bonnevie, the SBSC provides a high level of technical and tactical skiing skills for intermediate and above skiers aged 8-18. It is a complete team effort that involves professionally certified and experienced coaches, athletes, parents and mountain management. Bonnevie is grateful for the spirit of cooperation of Saddleback's staff and owners which allows the SBSC to utilize the high quality snow surfaces, the variety of different terrain, and the relaxed friendly atmosphere at this family oriented resort. SBSC provides an environment where young athletes learn the sport of ski racing in an enjoyable, supportive manner that encourages personal growth and fulfillment not only as athletes, but as human beings.

MARA is a non-profit corporation active in the State of Maine and affiliated with the alpine division of the USSA (US Skiing Association) program. It is one of eight state organizations in the Eastern Region of USSA stretching from Maine to Georgia. MARA alpine races take place from mid-December through early April at various ski areas in Maine. In March, post season events take place at ski areas throughout the Northeast bringing together athletes selected through qualifying procedures of the different state organizations. MARA is committed to providing a safe and congenial environment for all their competitions.
