Food Sensitivity Testing

Food sensitivity testing for cats is now available at NutraScan.  Dr. Jean Dodds avoids the word allergies since allergens cause immediate reactions.

Sensitivities to food cause slower reactions that occur in the gastrointestinal tract, such as increased abdominal sounds, gas, diarrhea, and vomiting. The skin can also be itchy, causing hair loss and lesions from scratching.

A video of how to collect a saliva test from a cat is found on a YouTube video by NutraScan.
Mutt Muffs

Mutt Muffs for dogs and cats were developed for ear protection in aircraft.  Another potential use for dogs is for noise phobias. The Mutt Muffs can muffle loud noises such as fireworks or thunderstorms.

It does require some training to get four legged critters to wear the Mutt Muffs before they are needed. Clicker training and similar positive reinforcement methods help the learning process for wearing the Muffs.

A link to their website is MuttMuffs.com.

Where are my feet?

When the rear feet are not being placed correctly, injuries to the legs and back can occur.

Checking for foot placement helps us find the problem before an injury occurs. Testing side stepping, backing up, dance stepping gives us information about how the nerves and muscles are working from head to toe.

With clumsy back feet, injuries can occur to the cruciate ligament in the dog. Surgery for cruciate injuries is the most common surgery performed on the rear leg.

Rabbit Holes

Alice in Wonderland
 fell down a rabbit hole.

In North America our native rabbits don't dig such holes.

Domesticated rabbits originate from European Rabbits. Unlike our wild rabbits, European rabbits dig tunnels or burrows in colonies called warrens.

The American cotton tail rabbits are solitary in nature.  They only dig a small superficial nest for their young.

Beaner
 the minilop rescue rabbit,
demonstrates her hole digging heritage.

Her formal latin name is Oryctolagus cuniculi translates as
"one who digs holes."

Now if we could just jump down that hole with her.
