    December, 2012       Seasons Greetings!

All of a sudden my face was swollen!

O Tannenbaum, O Tannenbaum
how lovely are thy branches....However, they can have some little hitch hikers on them that can cause allergic reactions!

Spider bites in some dogs can cause swelling of the head. Veterinarians call it angioedema. The dramatic swelling can include the ears, eye lids, muzzle and lips.

For this patient, all symptoms resolved after one round of antihistamines. While the few remaining spiders were removed from the house, O Tannenbaum was decorated and stayed indoors for the Holiday Season.

Holiday safety tips
* Chocolate can be potentially poisonous.
* Alcohol is not good for dogs.
* No chewing on the Holiday plants that can be toxic.
* Cats and tinsel don't mix. Tinsel can obstruct the intestines.
* Give the animals room to rest away from the festivities.
* Take time to relax and enjoy the moment.

On Facebook we have a nice photo and comment from Wendy. Thank you so much for your very kind words!

  The Traub family
spent a month visiting nature areas in Alaska.

It was so great, they are planning another trip next year! Thanks you
for sharing your
photos with us.

Oh baby it's cold outside and drafty inside.

It's time to get out the sweaters and coats.

Few breeds of dogs have enough undercoat to stay warm even in the house.

If you notice,
sleeping in a tight ball
 with the tail pulled
against the belly,
cold feet or muscle shivering it can be  symptoms of being uncomfortably cold.

The after effects of a cold sleep is stiffness.
