The 6th annual Scholarship Awards ceremony was held on May 13th, 2013 at Laytonsville Golf Course. The Albert Einstein High School Athletic Hall of Fame awarded over ninety thousand dollars to six well qualified student athletes.
Here is a list of this years scholarships and their winners:
The Kit Pardee Award: Awarded to a female student-athlete in honor of Kit Pardee, one of the most accomplished and courageous athletes in Einstein history. This annual award was established in Kit's name in the early 1980's prior to the formation of the Hall of Fame and upon her induction into the HOF in 2006, Kit expressed her desire to have the award made under the auspices of the HOF. This years winner is Eyvonnka Rizkallah. The Jack Keller Legacy Award: In establishing the award for the outstanding male student-athlete, the Executive Committee of the HOF was unanimous in its decision to honor the memory of Jack Keller. Mr. Keller served AEHS as a teacher, coach, and loyal friend from the opening of the school in 1962 to his departure in 1970. During these years, he was admired and loved for his devotion to the students he taught and the players he coached. Mr. Keller was a model of strength, dedication, leadership, integrity, and discipline. He led the Titans to their first County Baseball Championship in 1965 and would win championships again in 1967 and 1969. In 2013 the award went to Stephen Ucheomomu. The Bill Druhan Memorial Fund Award: Bill Druhan, a 2006 HOF inductee and captain of the first AEHS soccer team in 1964, passed away in 2011. To honor Bill's memory, accomplishments, and commitment to AEHS athletics, a memorial fund has been established in Bill's name to provide an annual scholarship to the outstanding AEHS male and female soccer player. Ellen Airozo, who will be attending St. Mary's College, won the award. The Titan Awards: In 2012, the HOF Board of Directors approved two four-year scholarships for AEHS student-athletes with an established financial need; one for women and one for men. These new awards, which could total up to $40,000 each for the full four-year funding period, were made possible by donations from an anonymous AEHS graduate and former athlete. The donor also established a matching fund whereby all donations made to the HOF scholarship fund will be matched on a dollar-for-dollar basis. The woman's award went to Jennifer Hill and the mens award went to Roberto Molina The Joseph Monte Continuing Support Award: To recognize the long and distinguished career of beloved AEHS Counselor Joe Monte, and his contributions to the establishment and success of the HOF, the Board approved the Joseph Monte Continuing Support Award. The Monte Award is made to a former HOF scholarship recipient that is in need of continued assistance in their educational endeavors. Justina Bui won this years award.
