The Express
Roseburg First United Methodist Church
The week of May 15
Engage God... Engage One Another... Engage Life!

We have a big celebration planned this Sunday and I hope you can join us. Remember to wear red for the observance of Pentecost Sunday and the birthday of the church.  And bring an appetite with you to the "Soul on Fire" CONNECT Youth fundraiser at the Presbyterian Church starting at noon.

I also invite you to keep in your prayers our brothers and sisters of the Dillard-Winston UMC.  They are doing some prayerful soul-searching and reality-testing, trying to determine what the future holds for their congregation.  They will meet with the District Superintendent in a few days to decide which of a number of options they want to pursue. They appreciate our prayers, as well as the sacred space they need to sort this out. May God bless them and lead them in this process.

This issue of the Express provides an update for the next week's happenings around Roseburg's First United Methodist Church.  If this weekly newsletter comes as a surprise to you, it's probably because we've added you to the mailing list!  If you don't want to receive the Weekly Express every Thursday, simply scroll to the bottom of the page to use the SafeUnsubscribe option.  Uncheck the Weekly Express and you'll no longer receive it

The hope, of course, is that you'll stay with us and up to date on all the great things going on in and through this church!

Blessings -

Pastor Scott Harkness

Stuck Class
Join Doreen Barlow on Tuesdays at 12:30 p.m. in the chapel for the continuing study, "Stuck".  All are welcome.

This wonderful class has turned into an ongoing group and is for anyone who would like to join. The original group decided in the second week of study that the book and DVD had so much to offer, we couldn't possibly get it all done in 6 weeks. So we decided to take as much time as we needed. There is also a possibility that when we have finished this course, we will find another course with a similar focus and just keep going. We may change the date and time in September, but we will keep going in some form for several months - with the summer off to enjoy our family and friends.

Don't be shy.  This was originally designed as a women's bible study, but everyone is welcome. it's a wonderful, thoughtful presentation that encourages bible study and discussion.

Booklet of Sermons on the Bible Now Available
A collection of Pastor Scott's sermons on the Bible is available on the Welcome Table. This sermon series was preached December-February of this year.

Calling All Grads!
Is someone from your family graduating this June? Please let the church office know names, where they are graduating from and their future plans as soon as possible so we can include them in our recognition of graduates.
Thanks!
Traveling Tables and Game Night Groups
In December I started organizing groups of individuals who wanted to get together for dinners and/or for a game night. I was out of the office from  January to late March so everything was put on hold.  I'm just starting to get back to that project and find some of our congregation who had volunteered to be leaders last year have had life changes to the point they could not host a dinner or game night at this time.  I'm looking for people who would be willing to be a host or hostess  to either of these groups.  I still have the signup sheets so we have people who wanted to attend but no one to coordinate the first meetings.  I have enough people for at least 2 Game Night groups and 2-3 Home Dinner groups. Would you like to be involved?  You would need to be able to seat at least 7-8 people.  It's actually a great time to start because we have great weather and you could host something unique in the park or the back yard of the church. Please contact me.  I'd be happy to help you get started.  Doreen 541-671-8399
