Over 750 Scouts Attended One of the Trailblazer Day Events in October!

Over 750 Scouts built an adventure at one of our three Trailblazer days in October.  At the Camp Easton Trailblazer Day, some Scouts started their day by taking a cruise across the lake from Coeur d'Alene. Right after opening flag the local mountain man swung by for a visit, then Scouts and their leaders scattered across camp for their day. Activities included paddling war canoes, fishing, archery, BB guns, rockets, learning about nature, and more.

"We had a great time!" commented John Klemme, a leader in attendance, "Thanks to all the volunteers who made it happen!"

Boy Scouts and their leaders from many different troops

volunteered their weekend to help set up and carry out each of the Trailblazer Days.  More adventures ahead: Winterfest will be held at Cowles Scout Reservation Dec 20th, and summer camp reservations are filling up fast (  www.nwscouts.org/cubscoutcamping). For Boy Scouts, there is also NYLT (National Youth Leader Training) in June, spring COPE programming, and our rapidly filling summer camps! For more information on those activities, visit www.nwscouts.org or call the Spokane Service Center at 509-325-4562.

If you record your service hours online and bring a copy of the certificate with the patch order form, your unit will receive a .50 cent discount on each Scouting for Food patch ordered!

Are you looking for an exciting activity, a "High Adventure Experience", to help develop Teamwork, Communication, Trust, Leadership and Confidence in your Scouts and units? Are you looking for something "Close to Home" yet in the outdoors? Then sign up for COPE (Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience) at Camp Ponderosa, Cowles Scout Reservation.

Watch the confidence and self esteem grow as they move from element to element, building trust and working together to overcome obstacles as a unit and as individuals. Each Scout is asked to push themselves "Outside their Comfort Zone", to accomplish much more than they thought themselves capable of doing. Come experience COPE and Fly Like an Eagle! Back Country Treks at Philmont

Are you planning on taking one of the back country treks offered at Philmont? If so, you need to begin planning right now! The popularity of the back country treks has resulted in Philmont Scout Ranch having to adopt a lottery system for determining who gets the trek slots.

The lottery for summer 2016 back country treks is now open - and will close on November 19, 2014.

The Philmont back country treks consists of a "crew" - 7 to 12 members (including 2 to 4 adults) hiking 12 or 7 days in Philmont's back country which consists of almost 250,000 acres. For 2014, you had a choice of 35 different treks ranging from 52 to 106 miles participating in 45 different activities at over 100 back country camps. No one itinerary will visit all camps and participate in all activities. Part of your trek planning involves deciding which activities you want to participate in.

Each year the treks are updated so one year's treks may not be the same as the next year's treks.  Remember, reservations for the 2016 back country treks are now open! You can access the lottery site here: http://philmontscoutranch.org/Camping/TrekPlanning/HowToReserve.aspx.

The most important thing to remember is - if you want to attend any of the back country activities at Philmont, you need to plan ahead - sometimes way ahead!  If you're not sure if Philmont is suitable for your troop, team, or crew, contact your Philmont Ambassador and schedule a visitation to your unit now!

Don't know who your Philmont Ambassador is?  Contact Paul Yelk at
