Honoring Those That Serve: The Annual Volunteer Recognition Banquet
Mark your calendars for Saturday, March 9, 2013 for the council's annual Volunteer Recognition Banquet. The banquet is being held at the Dwight D Eisenhower building at the People to People Complex (near the Spokane Airport) at 2011 S Flint Road in Spokane Washington. The evening will be a celebration of the many accomplishments of the volunteers of the Inland Northwest Council. The highlight of the evening will be the awarding of the recipients of the 2012 Silver Beaver Award. As a movement whose leadership is overwhelmingly volunteer, the Boy Scouts of America recognizes the need to acknowledge the invaluable services that men and women render to youth in and out of Scouting. The Silver Beaver Award, presented annually upon the action of a Council Executive Board, is the highest award that a council can present to a volunteer.

| Supernova Award
Richard Brown and his mother were attending the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Merit Badge University this past fall at Gonzaga University. During a lunchtime presentation they learned about the new Nova Awards of the Boy Scouts of America's STEM Initiative. They immediately came up to the presenter and asked to learn more about these fascinating awards. After getting the information they needed they went home that weekend and worked hard on the awards. Richard's mother, JoAnn, has a degree in Science Education so this was right up her alley. The day after learning about the new award and having participated in the STEM Merit Badge University and earning a merit badge that would fulfill requirements, they wrapped up the Whoosh! Nova Award. By earning it on November 18, 2012 Richard became the first of many from the Inland Northwest Council who have now earned this fun STEM award. STEM is an important initiative here in the Inland Northwest Council. We are encouraging unit leaders to incorporate STEM related activities in unit activities. Look for STEM activities at Cub Scout Day Camp, Cub Country and Camp Easton and Camp Grizzly this summer. Richard has started something great and we look forward to see where we go from here. Perhaps even to the stars! |

Voice of the Scout is coming your way soon!
Voice of the Scout (VOS) is the BSA's first nation - wide effort to directly to engage, you, our volunteers! VOS is a system of continuous surveys and reports that will capture the value our members, parents and volunteers are associating with Scouting. Through these experiences we can understand what is driving word- of-mouth referrals to Scouting and loyalty to our program. Your response to our surveys, which are sent out twice a year, will help to identify what we can do better as an organization.
So do you want the kids of the Inland Northwest Council to have a great Scouting experience? If your answer is yes, click here to enter your current email so you can make your voice heard!
