Hello Friends and Colleagues,

This past month was a traumatic one for those of us who studied, live, and work in Boston. Marjorie's husband has run the Boston Marathon 13 times, and they have cheered on the runners for as long as they can remember. They had friends who were running and a block away from finishing when the explosion happened. We all watched the surreal footage of the neighborhoods looking like war zones. To watch your town under siege is unbelievably painful. Thanks to everyone who has reached out to "check in," and of course our hearts ache for those killed and maimed by such unthinkable savagery.

In honor of all who are fighting for their lives, and those heroes fighting to restore Boston to the wonderful city it is, we are donating a portion of all sales of ESL RULES products in May to the  1 Fund.

Thanks in advance for your support on so many levels.

We have been invited to join a panel discussing pronunciation strategies in the classroom for ESP trainers at the 2014 TESOL conference in Portland, OR.  Stay tuned for more information as the conference approaches.

We will also be presenting at the Trainer's Symposium at the International Medical Interpreters Association (IMIA) meeting at the Duke University campus in Durham, North Carolina in September. For more information about this event, visit: www.imiaweb.org.

New App for Stoke Patients Can Assist Limited English Proficiency (LEP) and Medical Interpreters
communicaide
We came across this new application,
Communicaide, that helps individuals with aphasia (language disorder from a stroke, head injury, etc.) communicate. A physician, nurse practitioner, social worker, or caregiver can communicate more easily because the individual with the communication challenge can tap on the picture and it will talk for them. Or written sentences or expressions can be set up in the patient's native language and the app will speak in English (once programmed, which is quite easy to do). There is also a section for body parts and pain scales.

Communicaide uses photographs and you can customize with your own photo gallery.  Check out this new app

Product Updates
RULES BY THE SOUND

We are thrilled to share an upgrade to our RULES BY THE SOUND online platform. We are rolling out a series of specialized guidelines for specific language groups. The version for Japanese speakers  will be available this month, and will soon be followed by a Spanish, Chinese, and Russian version, among others. If you have a special request, let us know!

Look for the RULES eBooks Soon!
eBookWe are almost ready to offer the eBooks and audio downloads for many of our products. This will allow an expedient way to purchase our products and avoid shipping and customs costs. You can still purchase the actual books and audio CDs. They will be available when we launch our new website this month. (things don't always move as quickly as we plan!)
Until June, with best regards,

Lynda Katz Wilner        Marjorie Feinstein-Whittaker
