Know of a Great Environmental Project?
The State of Texas is seeking applications for the Texas Environmental Excellence Awards (TEEA), the highest environmental honor in the state. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) initiated the awards in 1993 under the Waste Reduction Policy Act. Presented every spring, the awards recognize outstanding environmental projects in nine diverse categories: agriculture, civic/community, education, individual, pollution prevention, innovative operations or management, technical/technology, water conservation, and youth. By recognizing the inspiring efforts of businesses, local governments, schools, students, individuals, and other entities, the TCEQ hopes to encourage like-minded projects and reinforce a spirit of environmental stewardship.
The deadline for applications (postmarked or submitted online) is October 3, 2014. If you'd like an example of a winning application, call (512) 239-3143 or email [email protected].

Councilmembers, mayors, city managers, and other officials who do not have a human resources background, but want to learn how to best manage the legal and policy issues surrounding today's employees should attend. Learn tips on hiring, firing, and how to write personnel policies, as well as how to avoid harassment, discrimination, and other legal claims that are often present in the employment arena.
