Municipal Law 101: What Every Elected Official Should Know

Cities and their elected officials are governed by thousands of laws. Not following them can lead to severe consequences, including jail time in some cases.  That's why cities have attorneys.  A part-time, volunteer official can't be expected to know it all, but you can know the basics.  Join us for Municipal Law 101. You can participate in person, or by our live videocast.

Our experts from throughout Texas will discuss types of government, public information act, liability, election law, dealing with the media, and more. You will gain knowledge to better understand why your attorney advises in certain ways, and how you can better spot the issues that need legal review.

Parliamentary Procedure Webinar on April 30

Parliamentary procedure can be intimidating to city officials who lack basic knowledge, or don't have experience using it. Yet, it's a valuable tool in meeting management. It can make council meetings run more efficiently, and reduce the potential of actions being declared illegal or challenged for procedural deficiencies.

In this one-hour webinar, you'll learn how to properly apply these rules of order, avoid common pitfalls to protect the rights of all, shorten meetings, and expedite business.

Wednesday, April 30, 1:30 - 2:30 pm
