Short on TMLI hours?
The 2013 Texas Municipal League Institute (TMLI) program year ends on December 31. Do you need to obtain a few more continuing education units in order to reach a certificate level? If so, we have several training options to help you meet your year-end goals:
November 21 - 22, Austin Municipal Law 101: What Every Elected Official Should Know
December 5 - 6, San Antonio Public Funds Investment Act Workshop
December 6, Fredericksburg TML Small Cities' Problem-Solving Clinic
December 13, Austin TML Newly Elected City Officials' Workshop
TMLI is a voluntary certification program for elected officials in TML member cities and is sponsored by TML and the Association of Mayors, Councilmembers and Commissioners (AMCC). Elected officials may obtain TMLI continuing education units by attending any TML-sponsored event. For program details and to check your training credits, go to the TMLI section of the TML website.
2013 Handbook for Mayors and Councilmembers
The Handbook for Mayors and Councilmembers presents an overview of the functions, powers, and responsibilities of mayors and councilmembers. Topics include policy development, goal-setting, council meetings, conflicts of interest, standards of official conduct, budgeting, personal liability, and media relations.
TML member cities can receive one copy of the handbook at no charge for each elected official, plus a reference copy for staff. Additional copies are $20 and can be ordered on the Publications page of the TML website. To inquire about your city's complimentary copies, contact us by email or call 512-231-7400.
Legal Q&A Index
In each issue of the Texas Town & City magazine, a TML attorney addresses common or emerging legal topics in the Legal Q & A feature. An index of this popular feature can be accessed online in the Legal Research section of the TML website. If the index doesn't shed light on a question you have, TML member city officials can always contact the TML Legal Department for help. For information on contacting a TML attorney and to explore other online legal resources, go to the Ask a TML Attorney page on the TML website.
