February, 2013
Dear Market Supporter,

We hope you've had a fabulous winter!

The market applications for vendors and musicians opened this week. This is just the beginning of the 2013 season! This newsletter is a call out to our community to join us this year, whether it is by volunteering at the market or on our advisory council, setting up a community booth, or sending us great vendors and musicians. Each has its own process. Please see below how you can contribute.

If nothing else.. please who may not know about the market to get them subscribed to our newsletter.

Here's to a great 2013!

Volunteering at the Market- Sign yourself up!
Community Hands
Have you ever had the desire to help out at the market? We have positions from 9am to 4pm every Tuesday that could use 30-60 min of your time. Be surrounded by colorful booths in an upbeat, positive environment as your break in the day. To sign up for a spot, visit our GoogleDoc  and type yourself right into one of our slots. Please insert your name, the amount of time you can volunteer if less than the full hour, and your email if not an OHSU employee (ie:Jane, 30 min, jane@help.edu) in the slot so we know how to reach you.

Community Booths- Accepting Applications

The OHSU Farmers Market provides a wonderful opportunity for groups to feature information, upcoming events and, in general, gain a larger presence on campus. We provide the 10 x 10 canopy, a table, 2 chairs, and you bring the rest. The market has 2 spaces each week for non-profits, OHSU groups and others whose goals align with our mission of improving human and environmental health. To apply, fill out our Community Booth Application.
Advisory Council- Interested in shaping the Market?

Do you have skills that would help the market become even more accessible and desirable to the OHSU community? Join us on our 2013 Advisory Council. We will meet for 1 hour each month from April - Nov. Apply online by Friday, March 8th to be considered for the team!
Vendors-Send them our way!

We know you each have your favorites at the market.. AMR berries, ProFarm's peaches, the Pizza guy.. but is there someone you wish was there, who isn't? Applications for vendors just opened.. and there is a full month before selections begin. Tell them how much you love the OHSU Farmers Market and send that special vendor to our Online Vendor Application! Thanks.. we appreciate finding new products to help make the market more interesting!

Weekly Farm Shares- CSA for OHSU Employees
Minto Island
Minto Island Grower's farmers Elizabeth Miller & Chris Jenkins

Become a member of a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) this year!  This season, the OHSU community has the opportunity to subscribe to a weekly box of freshly-harvested Organic produce from Minto Island Growers (MIG- they were at the farmers market for years!), delivered directly to your work-doorstep (no-middle-man, fresh from the farm, picked within 24-48 hours.)

This system is wonderful for the farmers as it provides a known source of funds for the season as well as expected amount to harvest.  CSA members enjoy fresh produce and the opportunity to get to know their local farmer, learn about small scale organic production systems and invest in the local economy. Members pay for their 22 week share in 1 or 2 installments. A partial share costs $400 and a full share costs $590 for the full 22 weeks worth of produce. Visit the MIG website to join or for more info. Speaking from personal experience, their produce is beautiful, their shares are abundant, the farmers are incredibly reliable and the cost is very reasonable for 22 boxes.

We hope to have 2 drop sites on Marquam Hill, and drop sites at the OHSU Foundation, Market Square Building, & Center for Health and Healing on the waterfront. We are looking for liaisons on Marquam Hill, who often get some food-based compensation for their help. Liaisons provide a location for the weekly boxes to be dropped. They do not need to be present for each pick up by members. If interested, please contact Eecole Copen at farmmkt@ohsu.edu or call 503-494-8972.

As you can see, there are many ways to join us this year. We are looking forward to hearing from you and to a wonderful 2013 season.

Sincerely,

Eecole Copen
