Saddlebred Pinot Noir - from Italy.
I love Pinot Noir, particularly Pinot made in the subtle, light and food-friendly European style. But when I think of Pinot Noir, I don't usually think of Italian wine; or vice-versa. Pinot's natural home is France, and most enthusiasts would argue that it reaches its peak (of quality and of price) in Burgundy.

Pinot Noir (sometimes rendered on Italian labels as "Pinot Nero") is certainly grown in Italian soil. But it doesn't get much market share in competition with more the traditional Italian varieties such as Nebbiolo or Sangiovese, or the many delicious Italian blends, not least the familiar and favorite Chianti.

When we run across an Italian Pinot as delicious and affordable as Friday's featured wine from Provincia di Pavia in the Lombardy region, near Milan, there's simply no reason not to stop, look and buy. Please try it this week.

"100% Pinot Noir. Rich cherry and strawberry aromas with delicate floral notes. Savory and delicious, well balanced with a silky smooth finish. Perfect match for grilled and smoked meats and sauces with earthy ingredients."

The Valpolicella region of Italy rightly boasts as one of Italy's premier wine regions. The "valley of many cellars" dates from ancient times, and Allegrini, synonymous world wide with both outstanding quality and Italian innovation in the Veneto, dates to the 1500's when ancestors of the late, pioneering Giovanni Allegrini inhabited the hills of Fumane.

The Veneto is not a region you drop in on: you have to stay, experience sunset and sunrise, eat, drink, talk to locals, drive and walk the hills. Anything less and...well, you miss the point.

Allegrini's stunningly beautiful 18th Century Villa in the heart of small town San Pietro in Cariano, not 10 minutes by car from cellar door is the perfect place to set up shop.

This is an excellent wine to begin or continue a love affair with Italian reds. This aromatic red is made from the corvina, rondinella and molinara grapes and designed to be drunk young. It is spicily fragrant, fresh, clean and succulent, has red cherry flavours and some dry savouriness and just enough firmness to encourage you to drink it with, say, a mushroom risotto. We are serving it with cheese this Friday night, please join us.

Bib & Tucker

The name "bib & tucker dates back to early America. The term was used to describe your finest attire that one would wear to a special dance or wedding. 35 Maple Street was thinking along those lines when creating their finest bourbon product. The bourbon comes from an undisclosed Tennessee distillery. The bottle is a one-of-a-kind amber colored glass with custom embossing.

Just like your finest dress, Bib & Tucker is hand-crafted from the best of the best. Its smooth bourbon flavors are a combination of chestnut and warm vanilla. The makers ensure that you will feel a sense of dedication with each bottle and know that it's something truly special.

Scents are earthy tones with notes of leather-bound books, barley, fresh cut grass and chestnuts. There are also strong tones of vanilla that lead the aroma. It's definitely a smooth first sip and well balanced with a lingering sweet tip. Some notes of cinnamon, dried apricots, caramel, black liquorice and again the warm vanilla bean from the nose. All these flavors are complimented by a subtle touch of ginger spice.

KIRK AND SWEENEY was a wooden schooner,
best known for smuggling rum from the
Caribbean to the Northeast during
the early years of Prohibition. In 1924,
it was seized off the coast of New York
with a massive amount of rum aboard.

The schooner was subsequently re-
named "Chase" and pressed into duty
as a Coast Guard trainer, serving until
the late 1940's when it was retired
and salvaged.

This deep mahogany colored rum presents
a sweet aroma balanced heavily toward cane
honey, with earthy sugar cane undertones,
along with a hint of vanilla, luscious toasted
oak, caramel and dried fruits. Bold, ripe, and sweet vanilla flavors evolve near the end, providing a smooth, long and luxurious finish.

Easter goodies have started to arrive.

Petite Fours and chocolate truffles, all of the  items are handmade and decorated and are a perfect treat.

Moonstruck Chocolates:

"In 1993, a simple but remarkable concept took root in Portland, Oregon. That concept was to handcraft superior chocolates - chocolates that would not only taste exquisite, but that would look exceptional, as well. The result would be a chocolate indulgence for all the senses.

From that initial idea grew Moonstruck Chocolatier, where to this day we still handcraft each piece, using only the finest ingredients. We pair our own decadent chocolate with fresh flavors found in the Pacific Northwest and beyond, and then hand-decorate each piece with intricate care.

It all makes for a chocolate experience without compare, and we invite you to share in that experience yourself.

It is our sincere hope that you enjoy savoring each Moonstruck Chocolatier delicacy as much as we enjoyed creating it."

Maurin Quina Liqueur was created in 1906 by Auguste Maurin in Le Puy en Velay, and quickly gained fame with the help of Leonetto Cappiello, the Italian-born artist who created the infamous green devil on the label.

Smooth and delicate, this noted liqueur is created by macerating wild cherries, quinine and bitter almonds in fortified white wine, and then blending it with cherry brandy, lemon juice and cherry juice. You have got to try this on Friday.

Enjoy chilled as an aperitif or paired with fresh fruit.
