TRG SHADOW

This Friday night we welcome Mr. Allan Godycki from Fine Terrior Selections. He will be pouring wine from Bordeaux, one of the most famous wine regions on our planet of grapes.

Bordeaux is the largest appellation-controlled wine region in France; it has over 10,000 producers, and makes an average of 660 million bottles of wine annually, more than 80 percent of which is red.

Of course, it's easy to find great red Bordeaux in the $75 to $300 range.  These are the Classified Growth wines of the Haut-Médoc-the Lafites, Latours, Léovilles, etc.- and the other renowned, big-name Bordeaux wines.  As good as these wines are, they're too expensive to drink on a regular basis.  Besides, they usually need eight to ten years or more of aging, at the very least, before they are mature enough to enjoy.
But only a very small percentage of Bordeaux wines, both red and white, fall into this "prestigious" category.

Lucky for the rest of us there are TONS of affordable red Bordeaux wines that sell in the $7 to $19 price range.  And the currently available vintages at this price are ready to drink. Since they are Bordeaux wines, these affordable reds won't fall apart quickly, either.
You can generally keep them for at least five years.

Stop by on Friday night from 5-8 PM and introduce yourself  to Mr. Godycki, he will lead you you to Bordeaux.

Chateau Haut Selve Blanc

Château Haut Selve is the unique creation of a vineyard in Bordeaux area in the 20th century.

Planted on an exceptional terroir, equivalent to those of the Grands Crus Classés, Château Haut Selve quickly became a key player in the Graves AOC. Recognized as being one of the 5 best properties in Graves since1996;

Château Haut Selve won the "Trophée des Graves" competition in 2012. More recently in 2013, Haut Selve red 2010 has been magnificently awarded with 2 gold medals: Concours Général Agricole de Paris and London International Challenge.

White Bordeaux of this quality is often priced too high to enjoy "everyday."

Excellent as an aperitif, with seafood, or select cheese. A beautiful "roundness" makes this a silky favorite. Please try it on Friday night.

Chateau La Mouliniere

Built in the late 16th Century, Chateau La Mouliniere is a beautiful single-estate vineyard located on the right bank of the Dordogne River near Saint-Emilion.

A simple fruity Bordeaux, attractively layering black currants, firm and dry tannins and fresh, juicy acidity.
It's light, and already drinkable. a very easy to use screwcap makes this an especially nice choice for the midweek table.

The news that Suntory bought Jim Beam for $16 billion surprised a lot of people for one simple reason: Who knew the Japanese cared so much about whisky? Not only do they care, but they are damn good at making the stuff. We have a cool selection of the Japanese potions, and in fact we have featured them in the store for the past year. We even had an entire evening devoted to a Japanese Whiskey tasting. So if you enjoy whiskey or know someone that does, take a look the next time you visit the store. This is a great gift item.

The Basque region is in the south west of France and encompasses the Pyrénées Mountains bordering Spain. The people of Basque Country insist their brebis cheeses have remained true to the traditional style for over 4000 years.

The Agour cheese dairy is situated at the bottom of Mt. Baigura in the heart of French Basque Country. Their Arpea de Brebis is an artisan semi-hard sheep milk cheese that has a natural rind which is covered with pimento in the later stages of affinage. The pâté is dense with little elasticity, yet retains a soft melting creamy texture in the mouth when chewed. The cheese is full with complex flavors on the palate.
You must try this on Friday night - its killer.
