TRG SHADOW

This is the chief mixologist at The Breakers hotel in Palm Beach Florida. We lean on her whenever we have a cocktail situation that requires a professional opinion - you might be surprised how often that actually occurs.

When judging all of the entries for our cocktail contest we started to struggle as to why one was better than another. Almost all of our impartial tasters liked one cocktail as much as the next, saying things like: "...oh, that's really good too."

So we sent our top picks down to Florida for an opinion.
This is how they looked when made by the pros:

"They are all good! What's really the criteria?" came the reply.

So it came back to how did these recipes connect to New London.

Many were strong, many used exotic ingredients, and some had great history attached. Did you know that New London had a very sophisticated rum trade with Barbados?

So next week we will announce the winner. Thanks very much for your participation it has been a lot of fun.

Holidays always play havoc with the email schedule. So we don't have time to list the wines for this Friday night.

But - as always, there will be wine and cheese for you to try.
Please join us from 5-8 PM this Friday night - no charge.

It is a great way to start your weekend. Meet your friends here, have a little wine and cheese and then stroll to one of the downtown restaurants.

Remember this weekend is also the annual I AM music festival - its another great reason to visit down town New London.

This soft, sticky, earthy, raw milk cow cheese is sure to be a favorite of any cheese plate. Produced from Jersey cow milk.

"Hudson Red is our first born and a funky favorite. A red-headed stepchild of Tallegio, this raw cow's milk cheese is made from the fresh and creamy cow's milk of an all jersey herd and aged 60 - 90 days. Its rich paste and pungent, yet supple, rind will remind you of the loving care our cheesemakers provide during daily brine-washings.  Your first taste of this award-winning, Hudson Valley native is - in a word - unforgettable! Pair it with an Italian rosé or a glass of Gewurztraminer or a fruity Moscato - wines particularly suited because of their Northern Italian roots."
