HOLLYWOOD COCKTAILS

"Let there be dancing in the streets, drinking in the saloons, and
necking in the parlor."
Otis B. Driftwood (Groucho Marx)
-A Night at the Opera (1935)

Many scenes in the early cinema took place in bars and cocktail lounges and it seems almost every halfway well-to-do character had a liquor cabinet or wet bar in their trendy apartment. Cocktails were found in all parts of the daily lives of the characters on screen.

In The Seven Year Itch, Marilyn Monroe seems a little odd when she dunks potato chips in Champagne and her neighbor, played by Tom Ewell, explains his solution for replacing the meals his wife failed to cook for him: "I'm perfectly capable of fixing my own breakfast. As a matter of fact, I had two peanut butter sandwiches and two Whiskey Sours."

We also find advice on bartending in movies like The Thin Man in which William Powell instructs his bartender on the 'finer' art of shaking. "The important thing is the rhythm. Always have rhythm in your shaking. Now a Manhattan you always shake to fox-trot time, a Bronx to two-step time, a dry martini you always shake to waltz time."

A good friend of the store suggested that we have a contest for the creation of "The New London." A signature cocktail that defines our city. - Why Not?

The winner will receive a $100 gift card.
All entries must be submitted by Tuesday August 19th.

The cocktail will be sampled here at the store, customers can vote on their favorites and a winner will be announced for the Labor Weekend tasting.

Zeni  Valpolicella

The Zeni winery is located and operates in Bardolino, on the slopes of the morainic hills along the eastern shore of Lake Garda. It's here, in the very heart of the vinegrowing area of the homonymous Bardolino wine, that the carefully selected grapes, coming from both privately owned and long-term lease vineyards, are conveyed.

The Winery also buys selected parcels of grapes from trusted local grape growers with whom it maintains enduring collaborations. Only the best grapes can result in wines with such a distinctive character that are true expressions of a unique terroir.

Zenni Ripasso

Hand selection of the best grape bunches coming from hilly vineyards. The grape picked at the beginning of the harvest is collected in small crates and left to raisin before being vinified with the rest of the grape picked by the end of the harvest. One of the consistently highest rated wines coming from Italy. Please try this on Friday night.

Also - we should mention to lovers of Italian Wine - we will be pouring some amazing Amarone this November.

Lots of details will follow - but keep it on your radar.

Please join us this Friday night.
It's fun, informal, and a great way to start your weekend.

Caseificio Taddei is situated in Fornovo San Giovanni, a village located on the plain south of Bergamo, and has specialized in producing and maturing traditional Bergamo cheeses for four generations.

"The old dairy has been vacated and a new one has been built from scratch in 1994.

The exclusive use of milk from selected local farms, the hand-made production and the careful attention to customer satisfaction, all contribute to the quality of our products."

The transformation of milk into Taleggio is still rigorously conducted by hand, following a recipe passed down by four generations of cheese makers, and it complies with the regulations of Consorzio Tutela Taleggio.

The Art Of Japanese Whiskey

Embodying the soul of Japanese craftsmanship, this harmonious blend resounds with calm complexity and "Wa," oneness. The legendary Hibiki represents true harmony. The ideal of perfection, the paragon of 'The Art of Japanese Whisky' and its artisans.

Hibiki means resonance in Japanese. It speaks to the soul and emotions of the most discerning whisky lover. Hibiki resonates from nature and all the subtleties found from the twenty-four seasons of the old Japanese lunar calendar.

Numerous pure single malt whiskies aged in a variety of cask types, including Mizunara, a very rare Japanese oak, all combine to create a full orchestra of flavors and aromas.

This is something special.

At a recent whiskey tasting here at the store everyone gravitated to the Hibiki. It is back in stock.

Mackinlay's Shackleton Rare Old Highland Malt
"The Discovery"
Yes, this is it - an exact replica of the whisky left in Antarctica by Sir Ernest Shackleton during his Antarctic expedition between 1907 and 1909.

The whisky was recreated down to the very last detail by Whyte and Mackay's blender extraordinaire, Richard Paterson.  Learn More...

The final replica bottle of Mackinlay's blend contains whiskies from Speyside, the Island, and the Highlands, and the recipe even includes some very rare 1983 Glen Mhor!

We are one of the few retail stores to offer this collectable masterpiece. It comes with maps, photos, letters, and a full account of the discovery and recreation. This is the perfect gift for someone special.

THE GAME OF THRONES

Available In September - Order Now

Even if you are not a fan of HBO's  The Game Of Thrones

you know someone that is.

Arriving in September is the fourth addition to the award winning series

of specialty brewed beers that celebrate the show.

Crafted by Ommegang Brewery

Valar Morghulis is brewed with pilsner and other specialty malts and hopped with Apollo and Hallertau Spalt Select hops. The hue is deep amber-brown with a persistent, creamy, off-white head. Aromas include caramel, toffee, ripe fruit, banana and slightly burnt sugar. The taste is well-balanced with rich malty sweetness, caramel and sugar, and just a touch of bitterness to balance. The finish is surprisingly dry and light on the tongue, belying the aroma and initial taste.

The label art will feature the two-headed coin, given to Arya Stark by Jaqen H'ghar, one of the "Faceless Men of Braavos" - legendary assassins with the ability to change their appearance at will. Each cork will be fire-branded with "Valar Dohaeris," which is the traditional response phrase to "Valar Morghulis" meaning "all men must serve."

This is a great gift idea - or something for your own collection. But it is very limited in supply. Pre-Order now is the best way to gaurantee your own.
