One of the most historic estates in the Clisson region of the lower Loire Valley. Vines have been grown here for centuries, some documents suggesting as early as1337. The first archival mention of Muscadet and its grape, Melon de Bourgogne, comes in 1635. Throughout its storied 700-year history, it has only changed hands four times. Today, the 90-hectares property is a designated Bird Sanctuary and "Parc Natural."
Wines are fermented in concrete, temperature-controlled vats using native yeasts and then aged for the winter on their lees. This maturation method is specific to the Muscadet region and produces purer, more aromatic and complex wines. Fresh and slightly sparking, with floral and fruity aromas reminiscent of apricot and hawthorn berries and notes of fresh melon. Clean and pleasant in the mouth, with an enviably long finish. A terrific food wine that is modest in alcohol at about 12% you can drink it all day long. |
 Conte Brandolini Pinot Grigio
Count Brandino Brandolini's true passion is revealed in his role as owner and winemaker at his family's historic Vistorta estate in northeast Italy's Friuli region, just 25 miles north of Venice. This down-to-earth, Venetian-born graduate of Texas A&M and the University of Bordeaux took the helm at Vistorta in the 1980s.
Influenced by his experience in Bordeaux and recognizing the outstanding potential of his family's estate vineyards (planted with grapes for over a century), Brandolini set out to produce world-class wines.
Brandino produces some lovely wines that we first tasted in Italy a few year's ago.
The Conte Brandolini Pinot Grigio is aromatic and fresh tasting, this Pinot Grigio exhibits a light apple and refreshing herbal character with medium-high acidity that is perfect for summer sipping and paired with foods.

Something Special From Burgundy
It Is Hard To Say Goodbye
White Burgundy Is Something Special.
I think we will pull down one of the "big boys" from the shelf and rediscover why they are so revered.
I've been told that the next couple of years we will see dramatic increases in the price of Burgundy wines.
So the bottles that are now listed at a hundred dollars and up will creep even further out of reach.
I think we need to taste some of them before we have to say goodbye - or at least see you later.
Please join us on Friday night.
It is fun, informal, and a great way to start the weekend.

New Cheese This Week
1 - La Tur - Cow/Goat/Sheep's Milk - Italy
Slightly runny on the edge with a rich creamy interior, La Tur is perfectly balanced- showing the best characteristics of all three milks; rich and creamy, slightly tangy with a touch of gaminess. The rind is soft and buttery; it is similar to Boucheron cheese, in that the rind is soft and the inside is relatively more firm, pasty consistency. The taste is kind of acidic. If you're gonna eat this one with wine, I say pick something effervescent, like a sparkling Lumasina. I really liked this one.
2 - Ubriacone - Raw Cow's Milk - Italy
UbriaconeŽ is an affectionate term in Italian for the "great big drunk." A delicious cow's milk cheese bathed in a mixture of local Clinton and Raboso wine, it is then pierced like a gorgonzola to let the aroma and flavor of the wine permeate the cheese to a new degree. It is sharp and fruity on the nose. The pliable paste with a slight crumble is not only visually stunning, with its purple-hued striations, but it also contains a nutty flavor that is quickly followed by a bright winey finish. The cheese is covered with grape leaves to cover the holes of the piercing. .
3 - Burrata - Cow's's Milk - Italy
Burrata (boor-rah-tah), a fresh mozzarella-like cheese from the Italian region of Puglia, is prized for its rich milky flavor and its two textures: a soft, elastic, spongy outer layer wrapped around a creamy, oozy interior. Burrata is delicious paired with crusty bread and flavorful ingredients like prosciutto, tomatoes, olives, nuts, and herbs.

Hendrick's gin maintains an uncompromised standard of quality. The sweet, velvety texture of this gin is infused with Bulgarian rose and cucumber oils. These two delicate oils, combined with the layers of juniper, orange peel and other botanicals spin a web laden with soft flavor and intricate nuances. Respect
From its balmy Caribbean cradle, where it was consumed in copious amounts by seafarers, to the blenders of every beach bar in America, rum has ably fulfilled its calling as a fun-loving, tropical spirit.
While the vast majority of rum is distilled from molasses left over from the production of sugar, Rhum Agricole is made from the free-run juice of sugarcane (like Cachaca from Brazil). Crafted in the French West Indies, Rhum Agricole is described by many as the purest expression of rum on earth. They are made throughout the Caribbean and the Indian Ocean Islands, but the majority hail from Martinique where production is tightly regulated by AOC (Appellation d'Origine Controlee) and Aged Rhum Agricoles must be aged for at least 3 years in barrel.
Rum, as a whole, may finally be getting some overdue respect.
We have a great selection from every corner of the globe.

EVODIA

SHAMEFUL
WINE SPECTATOR:
"Evodia Old Vines Garnacha Calatayud 2011? It has lively raspberry aromas with hints of lead pencil and grilled herb plus flavors that are lively and ripe, but balanced with minerally acidity. The suggested retail is $11, but it often sells for less. I gave it 88 points, non-blind, on the Wine Spectator 100-point scale. I'd like to see California match that same bang for the buck.
It's not really until you reach $15 or $20 a bottle that California can compete on the same quality level."
First Come, First Served.
