Holiday Treats
Frequently Asked Question about Easter:
"What are some good wines to pair with Easter dinner, particularly ham?"
Hands down, my favorite choices with ham are Riesling and Gewürztraminer.
For your friends who drink only reds, we have soft and fruity examples of Zinfandel, Pinot Noir or Grenache-based wines, and juicy red blends. And try bringing a dry rosé, which will appeal to the wine-geeks around the table.
These are the reds that go very well with lamb too. Full bodied red wine and red blends are practically why they invented lamb in the first place. Silky, satisfying, and delicious - we have them from the world over.
Finally, you can never go wrong with bubbly, which is always festive and goes with a variety of foods, including macaroni and cheese and ham.
Great Rieslings include:
Strub - Rheinhessen Donnhoff - Nahe Leitz - Rheingau Selbach-Oster - Mosel
Value Priced Bubbly:
Sparkling Cava from Spain, Prosecco from Italy, and Cremant from France. Truly excellent choices that will not break the bank and usually put a smile on everyone's face.We have some of the best small producer Champagne anywhere.

And of course Sauvignon Blanc deserves a seat at your table too. Try the Joel Gott Sauvignon Blanc. Crisp acidity, gives a lip-smacking freshness to many holiday foods. A good way to start things off.
We have many selections in every category, and we will help you choose the right one to share with your family and friends.
Try a variety of these wines this Friday night.

Save The Date FRIDAY MAY 2ND - 5-8PM The Regular Weekly Tasting
New York Times:
"Château Lamothe de Haux's citric, mouthwatering Bordeaux blanc could replace entire lists of white wines in the city's seafood restaurants.
Bordeaux blanc is underappreciated in the United States. Lamothe's bone-dry version, blended from sauvignon blanc, sémillon and muscadelle grapes, pretty much typifies the genre at its best.
Drink it now."
If you have been waiting for a good reason to come down to New London on a Friday night - this is the one. Mr. Damian Chambart. Proprietor of Chateau Lamothe will be joining us in the store for what promises to be an fun and exciting visit. Since 1956, 3 generations of the same family have managed Château Lamothe. Damien oversees the entire estate and often travels abroad to promote our wines. Chateau Lamothe is not only a great source of dependable traditional wine, but also for many of the beautiful buildings in the town of Bordeaux. Their impressive deep cellars are a former quarry where stone excavations were done in the 17th and 18th century. And don't miss their super-charming B&B when visiting! This wine is inexpensive and we will have plenty on hand for bottle signing and photo opportunities with Damian. Please join us. |

The Master Class
Loire Valley
presented by Deidre Magnello
The Loire Valley is France's most diverse wine region, producing exemplary wines in every style. Popularity of Loire Valley wines with sommeliers and wine writers has been growing steadily for the last ten years because for all their variety, Loire Valley wines share important characteristics that make them perfect for contemporary taste.
Moderate alcohol, refreshing acidity and minerality make them ideal food wines. Pure expression of varietal and terroir unmasked by oak. Excellent value.
The Loire Valley is the heart of France, famous for its natural beauty, magnificent châteaux and great wine. The region is rich in history and culture: Renaissance writer Rabelais was born here; Joan of Arc led French troops to victory in the Hundred Years' War in the Loire; and, as the Cradle of the French Language, its residents speak the purest French.
This is a great way to expand your wine knowledge in an informal atmosphere and to meet a wine industry veteran. Deidre Magnello has been traveling, teaching, and representing wine for over 20 years.
We will be pairing all of the wines with small bites and it is a rare chance to learn from an expert.
Wednesday May 7th 6:00 - 7:00 PM.
This will also be an opportunity to purchase the featured wines at a special discount.
Seating is limited please reserve early.

New Arrivals:
BEER:
Stone Brewery Allagash Green Flash West Coast IPA Brooklyn East India Pale Ale Hennepin Chimay
Single Malt Of The Year:
TALISKER STORM
Talisker in any guise is a very special and idiosyncratic single malt, defining an Island style that is all its own. The last year has seen Diageo expand the existing portfolio with three new Talisker expressions, namely Storm, Dark Storm (matured in heavily charred casks), and Port Ruighe (port finish), all released without age statements. Of this trio, Talisker Storm seems the pick, with one commentator describing it as "...everything that you love about other Taliskers with the settings turned right up."
PENDLETON BLENDED CANADIAN WHISKEY
A few years back, I was looking for a go-to standard without the familiar, harsh bite of Jameson or Bushmills, or the hefty price tag of Red Breast. I love Pendleton's slightly sweeter, bourbon-like profile, with hints of raisins and toast and a rich flavor reminiscent of a pecan pie, with plenty of deep-caramel goodness. It is just the thing for a shot added to hot drink on chilly evenings, or when I'm making Irish coffee for Sunday brunch with friends.

The Back Story:
In the spring of 2009, armed with a copy of the latest Wine Spectator, 90+ called and emailed wineries with a history of high ratings and asked if they had wine for sale.
Some told them to get lost, others simply ignored them, but in the end, they found a handful of willing winemakers.
The plan was this: They put the 90+ Cellars label on their wine, and they sell it at a fraction of the original price. But they could never reveal the famous source of the wine. It was a good plan.
They partner with highly respected wineries around the globe to provide you with wine that will keep more dollars in your pocket and impress the pants off your friends. Great wine every time.
Check them out on your next visit to the store.
