TRG SHADOW

 "La Bella Figura"

This is an Italian term that is difficult to translate into English. In short it is a way of living life.

Italy is a place of grandeur and elegance and this is seen in the details. For example, even the uniforms of the Italian policemen, soldiers, and carabinieri are more stylish and elegant than those of neighboring countries. Even the road sweepers are more fashionable in their immaculate white coveralls. In addition to being well dressed and well groomed, Italians surround themselves with beauty. Italian cars are known for their design and beauty.

There's an inherent sense of appreciation for color, design and form throughout the land. Gardens and architecture are vibrant, alive and beautiful. The art, history, architecture, fashion and fine wines of Italy are undisputed.

Live A Little
Here are a couple of the featured wines for Friday Night.

"La Rosa Selvatica" Moscato d'Asti"

Moscato d'Asti is related to -
and often confused with
- Asti Spumante.

This is a lightly sweet and gently effervescent wine from the Piedmont region in northern Italy. While it is a festive and fun wine, it does have a sense of place and style that help explain why it ranks so high as one of Italy's favorite wines.

Moscato d'Asti has a natural affinity for a wide variety of foods. For example, Moscato pairs well with the following:

  • A wide variety of appetizers, including paté and grilled salmon
  • Fresh fruits and/or cold cuts - it is excellent with melon and prosciutto.
  • Not-too-sweet desserts such as fresh fruit, fruit tarts, panettone, biscotti and sorbet. For a truly ambrosial treat, splash some Moscato over a bowl of fresh strawberries.
  • Soft cheeses such as gorgonzola or mozzarella di bufala.
  • Moscato is the ideal wine to serve at the end of a holiday meal (Christmas comes to mind) when people are too full  for anything other than a glass of refreshing Moscato d'Asti.

TOSCANA ROSSO IL TORO

Rated 93 Points - Wine Spectator

"The finest things in life are often hidden away, in fact the Castello Romitorio winery takes its name from the massive twelfth-century fortress that sits atop a hill surrounded by thick oak forest in Northwestern Montalcino. Its name suggests that the edifice served multiple uses throughout its history probably as fortress as well as Monastery, making it a location that is remote in time and space.

Abandoned in the 1950's its rebirth as a winery occurred in 1984 when Artist Sandro Chia acquired the estate from his friend Baron Giorgio Franchetti. The restoration of 'Castello Romitorio' began immediately, followed by the transformation of its overgrown lands into vineyards.

This is a union of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Petit Verdot aged 14 months in French oak. It is intense ruby- red, vivid and compact. Pleasant on the nose and well composed, it is marked by sweet and fruity scents of crushed rose petals .
Full bodied and silky - a great holiday wine."
