Rock & Roll - Italian Style
Italian rock star Gianna Nannini is making Sangiovese-based blends from her family estate, Certosa di Belriguardo
"I want to make 'alternative' wines that young people can associate with, that they can drink easily," said Nannini. She has been a leading star on the Italian rock scene for more than two decades and bubbles with energy both onstage and off. Her family is known worldwide for its production of Panforte and other traditional Sienese cakes and pastries.
All wines are Sangiovese-based, using grapes from Belriguardo's 17 acres of vineyards, along with international varieties purchased from neighboring producers. The first releases are Il Chiostro, a Sangiovese-Cabernet blend. The estate's total production is currently a little more than 1,800 cases, which are sold mainly in Italy and northern Europe. This is an especially interesting wine to try this Friday night. Something you won't find anywhere else.

Pelissero Dolcetto d'Alba "Munfrina" - $19 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Dolcetto d'Alba Munfrina is a vibrant, pure wine. It offers notable complexity in its dark fruit, spices and menthol, with tons of complexity. A long, resonating finish caps off this incredibly delicious Dolcetto. Giorgio Pelissero is based in Treiso, in the heart of the Barbaresco zone. While I have long admired his wines, it often seemed as though Pelissero wasn't getting the most of his vineyards. That seems to have changed with this set of releases. I was simply blown away by what I tasted."
A great opportunity to try this wine on Friday night.
