SUMMER FLING!

There are not very many people that we invite to pour for you at the weekly tasting. All of the performers that appear on the main stage here in the store have proven track records. We trust them to introduce all of us to new products and interesting variations on traditional ideas.

So if Bob Neville says we should try something -

we should try it.

Camposaldo Sparkling Wine from Italy.

All of the grapes grow on the cool hilltops of northern Italy's Lombardy region, where the northern-lying Alps shield the low-yielding hillside vineyards from harsh weather and the 20-year-old Guyot-trained vines benefit from a superb blend of white marl and chalky soils. During harvest, the fruit is carefully handpicked.

The warm daytime sun contrasting with cool night air helps the grapes to retain their distinctive aromas. The fruit is handpicked, and after a temperature-controlled fermentation the wine is sweetened with unfermented grape juice and undergoes a natural second fermentation in autoclave, resulting in a fine, persistent effervescence.

Maybe this is the greatest sparkling wine we have ever tried, you can judge that for yourself. But we do have a "plan B."

Louis Roederer Brut Premier
#95 Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2009

Louis Roederer has been synonymous with the world's great Champagnes since 1776. Brut Premier is the House's flagship multi-vintage Champagne and its most popular and best-selling wine. It's the Champagne that sets the house style for this esteemed producer.

Critical Acclaim:

"Firm and finely meshed, with hints of passion fruit and pineapple mixing with poached apple, almond pastry and fleur de sel. Mouthwatering and lightly smoky on the lingering, refined finish."

91 Points Wine Spectator

"A beautifully integrated wine that shows richness, even a touch of toasty age to go with apple and intense acidity. The acidity shows so well against the rich backdrop of ripe fruits and a final edgy texture."

91 Points Wine Enthusiast

This is something that you should be trying anyway. It is a great addition to the Summer festivities and adds a real touch of elegance to just about any food.

Try it with your lobster roll at Captain Scott's or the menu at Ford's. It is a very affordable way to kick things up a few notches.
