11 Pinos Bobal Old Vines 2011 - $11
Vega Tolosa was founded by the Tolosa family in 1905, currently with 150 hectares (375 acres) under vine. Of this, 100 acres is head-pruned Bobal, all over 80 years old. As Bobal has suffered massive uprooting in favor of international varieties in recent decades, this represents a cultural patrimony for Juan José Tolosa, third generation of the winemaking family.
Manchuela lies to the northeast of the La Mancha meseta between the Júcar and Cabriel River valleys, and well above the coastal plains of Valencia and Alicante. It represents the ancestral home of one of Spain's most interesting and underappreciated red varieties, the Bobal.
Partially oak-aged, a concentrated yet elegant and refreshing red of deep color. Varietal notes of wild mountain herbs, red fruit and minerals predominate. The finish is consistent and long, leaving a refreshing acidity in the mouth. Calls for a wide variety of grilled meats and vegetables.

Legado del Conde Albariño 2011 - $15
A full-bodied, serious, dry Albariño similar to its sibling Morgadío incorporating wines made from the first pressing in a comparatively softer and more floral style.
Rated 90 Points: "On the brighter side of a rich albariño, this is tight and floral, fragrant with pear scents. There's tension between the fleshy fruit and complex, toasty flavors, lasting together with a cut of bitter orange zest acidity. For wood-oven roasted oysters." Wine & Spirits Magazine
Albarino is one our our best warm weather choices - especially good for the menu at Captain Scott's or in your backyard with friends.
Please try it on Friday night.

El Pájaro Rojo 2011 - $15 Rated 90 Points, Year's Best, Best Buy, 100 Best Values of the Year Wine & Spirits, Oct 1, 2012
Losada Vinos de Finca was established by Bierzo winemaking veterans in 2004, its beautiful ultra-modern facility located in the heart of Bierzo's finest vineyard area, in the very midst of the old Mencía vines.
"A rich and unctuous Mencía, this has a fluency in the mouth, deploying its ripeness, completely covering the palate with caramelized and voluptuous flavors. For grilled meats."
Following an explosive period in which the Bierzo region leapt to worldwide fame on the merits of a few highly-extracted and noticeably oaky wines, Losada's founding philosophy is to take the region's wines to higher level, seeking as a priority elegance, balance and purity of expression.
100% Mencía vineyards owned or managed by Losada are farmed organically with yields kept to a minimum. All wines undergo malolactic fermentation in French oak.

Think Local Or Don't Think At All
All of the local merchants appreciate your support.
It is difficult to compete with the big stores and the even bigger brands that fill their shelves. The local merchants provide something else. The quality, service and attention to detail that is harder and harder to come by. Thank you one and all for the remarkable support that you give to the locals. It makes all the difference.
