What's Happening Now...
Road, Sidewalk and Pathway Construction
The City of Novi prides itself on maintaining open lines of communication and keeping community members apprised of the latest in road and non-motorized construction projects.

The following information is intended to provide an overview of current projects, including those led by the Michigan Department of Transportation and the Road Commission for Oakland County.
Michigan Department of Transportation Updates

Westbound Grand River Avenue bridge over I-275 is currently closed for repairs and patching. The westbound traffic will be detoured to westbound 10 Mile Road to northbound Haggerty Road back to westbound Grand River Avenue. This closure is expected to last until 10 pm on July 5.
One lane of eastbound traffic will be maintained.

Southbound I-275 and associated interchange ramps are closed and detoured for construction. It is expected that this work will be completed by mid to late July.

Once the contractor's work is complete, southbound I-275 and associated interchanges will be reopened. Then, northbound I-275 will be closed and detoured for construction sometime around mid-summer. Shortly following, eastbound I-696 from I-275 to east of Lahser Road will be closed and detoured for two weekends.
Finally, when the contractor has completed the northbound bridge work on northbound I-275, they can then reopen northbound I-275 and associated interchange ramps to traffic, which is currently estimated to occur by September 15, 2016.

Project overview:
I-275, between 5 Mile Road and the I-96/I-696/M-5 Interchange in Wayne and Oakland Counties within Novi, Farmington Hills and Livonia, will be rehabilitated by the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT). The road surface in this stretch of I-275 is in very poor shape and needs to be fixed immediately. This $70-$80 million project will involve the removal and replacement of the concrete roadway including all interchange ramps, along with the rehabilitation or reconstruction of 16 bridges. It is anticipated northbound and southbound I-275 will be reopened to traffic by mid-September of 2016. In order to achieve this goal of opening in September, this project has been approved for periods of nighttime work.

City of Novi Projects

Nine Mile Road from Novi to Meadowbrook roads is openThe City in cooperation with MDOT rehabilitated this roadway section in three distinct stages: 1) reconstruction of 9 Mile from Chase Drive east to Meadowbrook Road; 2) mill, overlay and striping of 9 Mile at the CSX Railroad tracks; and 3) mill, overlay and striping of the remainder of 9 Mile from Novi Road to Chase Drive. All work associated with this project is now complete.

The City will widen the current Library entrance off 10 Mile Road for the addition of a dedicated left-turn lane. The contractor was anticipating to begin removals starting Monday, June 27. The Library will remain open during the project at its normal summer business hours. For the duration of the project, access to the Library will be to enter (only) off of 10 Mile by way of Wildcat Drive (next drive east of the Library entrance) and exit (only)the current Library entrance. Upon exiting, there may be periods of work that will not allow immediate departure. The project is expected to be substantially complete by mid to late July.

This project involves the construction of a 10-foot wide asphalt pathway and a 500-foot long boardwalk located within ITC's overhead power line easement from the intersection of 9 Mile and Garfield Roads to the ITC Sports Park at 8 Mile and Napier Roads. This project is expected to be completed by mid-October. The contractor is nearing the completion of the 135-plus foundation piers for the boardwalk. The next step is to begin excavation of the proposed pathway down to solid subgrade and start construction of the boardwalk above the pier foundations. This work will take approximately one month to complete.
