HONORING THE BEST OF THE BEST
Police and Fire Awards Ceremony recognizes community heroes
A snow storm delayed what is usually one of the best days of the year in Novi - the annual Police and Fire Awards Ceremony.

But the one-week wait was well worth it.

On March 3, community heroes - both public safety first responders and every day residents - were honored for their courageous service and commitment to enhancing the quality of life in Novi. Some stories brought people to tears while others brought the crowd to their feet with cheers.

Numerous officers and residents received citations, commendations and awards throughout the night, with three public safety employees taking home special recognition. Lt. Carlton Korzeniowski was named Firefighter of the Year, Emergency Management Coordinator Raymond Garbarino was named Police Civilian of the Year and Sgt. Amanda Kulikowski was named Police Officer of the Year.

"In addition to performing their work assignments at peak performance, all three individuals embrace the highest of public safety values and serve as outstanding role models for their colleagues, the City of Novi and the community," said Director of Public Safety/Chief of Police David Molloy.

POLICE OFFER SAFE SPOTS FOR SALES
Parking lot serves as Internet Purchase Exchange Location
Novi residents and business owners who buy and sell items from Craigslist or other exchange sites are invited to use the Novi Police Department parking lot to conduct their transaction in a safe location.

There are two parking spots marked specifically for internet purchase exchanges, and the lot itself is monitored by staff and security cameras 24 hours a day and are well-lit in the evening.

Police advise sellers to not invite potential buyers to their homes, and meeting at the police department helps reduce any potential danger to the seller or their family and property.

Some other additional safety tips for those conducting business with an unknown buyer include:
  • Only accept cash or a cashier's check. Personal checks carry some risk.
  • Conduct sales during weekdays so banking or financial institutions can be contacted if there is a problem.
  • Never go alone and trust your instincts.
The Novi Police Department is located at 45125 Ten Mile Road. For more information, call 248.348.7100.
