National Food Group unveils Innovation Center
State-of-the-art kitchen helps expand food opportunities
It's a kitchen that would make Gordon Ramsey blush and it's right here in Novi.
National Food Group, a wholesale food service distributor for education, institutions, entertainment venues, healthcare facilities and corporate cafes, recently unveiled its new state-of-the-art Innovation Center at its national headquarters.
The commercial kitchen is designed to provide customers, partners and employees an inviting atmosphere to learn about food and food preparation techniques.
The business has housed its national headquarters in Novi since 1990, and continues to grow, adding 25 employees last year with more expected in 2016. It offers three unique programs: Opportunity Buys, Always Available and Commodity Processing, which all arose from a commitment to improve nutritional quality in food service through high value products.
The new kitchen is outfitted with the same industry standard equipment found in professional food service kitchens, and is in a modern bistro-style space with metal, barn wood and granite finishing. It also features commercial video and teleconferencing equipment to live stream or record meetings and demonstrations.

Register your burglar and fire alarms with the City
Goal is to cut down on the number of false alarm calls
The City of Novi is hoping to cut down on the number of false alarm calls from its businesses by encouraging owners to register their alarm with the City.
An online form is being created that will allow police and fire personnel to make contact with someone at the business in the event of an emergency. The information in the form will ONLY be used by public safety personnel and is free of charge to all Novi businesses.
Each false alarm comes with a rather hefty price tag, as well as what could be considered a waste of resources should a true emergency exist elsewhere in the City and resources are tied up in the false alarm.
This registry encourages the listing of multiple internal contacts for the alarm companies prior to them contacting the police/fire departments. It also gives first responders an accurate point of contact - alarm company and business - at the ready when need be.
Look for the registry on InvestNovi.org later this month. If you have any questions about the fire alarm initiative, contact Wenona Graham at wgraham@cityofnovi.org. | |

Novi businesses step up to help the people of Flint
More than 500 cases of water donated to those in need
Numerous businesses, individuals and organizations have stepped up to support the people of Flint by providing them with clean drinking water.
In Novi, Global Office Solutions did its part by collecting upwards of 300 cases of water and transporting it via one of its box trucks to the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan in Flint. Water was dropped off at the Novi Civic Center and Novi Fire Station No. 1 over a period of two weeks, and Global offered a discount on case purchases to customers on its website.
Kudos to Owner Reuben Levy and his team that volunteered to drive the water to Flint on Sunday for their commitment to community service.

Another Novi business, Critical Signal Technologies, also stepped up to match water donations made by its employees. The drive was started by employee Jo'Charta Rogers, and CEO Jeffery Prough pledged to match the donations. Home Depot offered a truck for the business to use at no cost, while U-Haul also offered one at a discounted rate. All told, more than 200 cases of water were delivered to the people of Flint last weekend by CTS and its employees.
Awesome work by Rogers, Prough and the CST team who saw the importance of helping others. |
Feedback needed for Thoroughfare Master Plan
Plan important component of transportation planning efforts
The City of Novi is in the process of preparing a Thoroughfare Master Plan for the City. The intent is to establish physical and cultural environments that support and encourage safe, comfortable and convenient travel by a variety of modes - vehicle, bicycle or pedestrian.
This plan will serve as a blueprint for future development of Novi's transportation network and assist the City's decision makers to identify strategic and sustainable investments.
An important aspect is soliciting public input, which can be done via the Community Remarks online forum. This forum allows residents and business owners to add their comment directly to a map of the City and also see what their neighbors have to say.
Any questions or comments about the Thoroughfare Master Plan may be sent to Barbara McBeth, City Planner, at bmcbeth@cityofnovi.org.
