Saturday and Sunday, October 26 and 27
The Martinsville Mountain medical team began its journey home via Punta Sal, a national state park in Honduras. It was our cultural day -- an opportunity to learn more about Honduras, have fun and relax a little before heading back to the states. We took a skiff boat from Tela to the state park which is a peninsula jutting out into the Atlantic Ocean.
Our guide, Mario, kept us entertained on our boat trip to the park. He drafted some of the men team members (certainly not the women!) to get out and help push the boat through a sand bar and into enough surf to get the motor going again.
When we arrived at the park, we felt like we were on "Gilligan's Island" as we begin our hike through the park's jungle terrain. Mario pointed out the aptly-called "howler" monkeys... and hearing them was even more exciting!
After the team had lunch, prepared by locals, and a swim in the ocean, we headed back to San Pedro Sula.
We spent the night at Casa Del Sal, a very nice hotel with wonderful showers and bath rooms! Nury had arranged for a final dinner for us at a local restaurant. Once again, the food was outstanding.
Yesterday morning, Dennis gave a short but inspiring communion services before we headed out. The team made a quick stop at the local market where we got our souvenirs for home. Then came the most difficult part of the week, saying "good-bye" to Nury and Elmer and ultimately to each other as we arrived back home.
We have become a "family" and have made memories that will last us a lifetime.
God be with each and every one....... Adios!
