The Martinsville Mountain Medical Team traveled its shortest distance (about 45 minutes) today to Las Quebradas. The entire team agreed the people were some of the most gracious we've met while in Honduras. From the moment we drove up the road leading to the school, men, women, and especially the children came out to greet us. The children were waving and smiling at us. You would have thought we were Santa and his band of elves!
There were a number of heartfelt moments today. One was the divine intervention with our weather. We have had beautiful weather all week and this is supposed to be the rainy season. While it rained hard every night, we were blessed with sunshine for our travels each day, keeping us safe. Interestingly, today as we left this last community, it started to rain and continued the entire way home. Glances of thankfulness were exchanged among the group.
Dr. Jim gave his cross to his interpreter, Shanell; while Dr. Will gave another cross to his interpreter, Azuzena. These women helped to bridge the relationship between doctor and patient, enabling the best possible care.
The road into the Barnabas House looked like a small river. Once again, Elmer and his team got us home. The guys got out and hauled the bus up the drive using the bus' winch.

Another emotional moment was saying our goodbyes to our fellow Honduran co-workers once we reached the Barnabas House. We have become like family. The Martinsville team is so grateful for the help and support of these amazing people; they will always hold a special place in our hearts!
