Our final morning at Alfredo House began at zero dark thirty (that has been a common theme this week)! Instead of loading the bus, we loaded our bags and sadly said goodbye to the staff at Alfredo house and headed out for our cultural day.
Punta Sal National Park was our final destination today and after a two-hour bus ride and a forty-five minute boat ride, we finally arrived. Our exciting hike through the forest replete with howler monkeys and large spiders led us to a calm turquoise ocean for snorkeling. It was a wonderful way to recharge and relax before heading back home tomorrow. We celebrated Daniel's birthday tonight at a San Pedro Sula restaurant.
We have seen much and learned more this week that you can imagine. Tomorrow, we will go our separate ways. Ed leaves for California and the rest of us head back to Richmond to our families who have held down the fort at home while we were away. So many things await us; school starting, catching up at work and with our families. We will always remember the faces and stories from our mountain medical teams, holding them close in our hearts. We have been a true team this week and the bond between us will last forever.
God is present in all things; sometimes you just have to slow down a little and listen. We have seen and experienced that in abundance this week.
Thanks for joining us this week on our journey and for your prayers for the Honduran people. We have felt your love and appreciate your support!
