Rising early this morning, we headed out for the two-hour trek to Higuerones, our fourth village of the week. The sights and smells of Honduras are unforgettable. It is easy to see why people fall in love with the country and this mission. The villagers leave a permanent mark on your soul. No matter how old the patients are, they all receive the same amount of care and love. It is astonishing how greatly the ages vary. From a one-month-old newborn to a 91-year-old great-grandmother, we see almost everyone.

It happened that the 91-year-old captured Sarah's heart. She gave away her cross when Maria the great-grandmother came into the eye clinic. After receiving a new pair of glasses, she looked up at Sarah and just gave her a great, big, toothless smile. That was enough for Sarah to realize that her cross was meant for this little lady. Patti cared for a 7-month-old today with significant hydrocephalus.

We have been on many a narrow and bumpy road this week with Elmer at the wheel. We never know what is around the next bend in the road and we have faith that God is in control. We have seen and been moved by many things this week. Someone had the observation tonight that this experience has brought a peace because we have been able to focus on others' needs and not our own needs. The words in the song "Give Me Your Eyes" by Brandon Heath sums it up: " Give me your eyes Lord for just one second so that I can see everything that I've been missing, give me your love for humanity, give me your arms for the broken-hearted, the ones that are far beyond my reach, give me your heart for the ones forgotten, give me your eyes so I can see."

Tomorrow we will visit our fifth and final village of the week. It has been a full week with always something to be done. It has been amazing to see the preparation and effort that goes into making the Mountain Brigade possible and that is only one piece of the overall plan!

On the way home tonight we shared strawberry smoothies at Cafe Verde which is the center of the Americas (equidistant from Argentina and Alaska). We felt very balanced!
