Team Journal - Day 4

Day 4 - Sunday, July 28

We began our day with beans, rice, eggs, fruit, homemade yogurt, and tortillas! Our fearless driver, Melvin, drove us to the village of San Jose de la Cuesta where we were greeted by approximately 60 niņos. This community is struggling with teen suicide, and as we went into a small church adorned with fringed picnic table cloths, laced curtains, and flowers, Brain was able to deliver a message about how God commanded us to first, love Him; second, love our neighbor; and third, love ourselves. The children sang their national anthem for us and several young women shared their gifts of words and song with us.

Following the service, we walked up a small hill to the school house. We separated into groups similar to the day before and taught the children about Noah's Ark. We spent the afternoon playing soccer, painting faces, hitting the piņata, making balloon animals, and singing "Tootie Ta." We were all impressed with the soccer field and the players on the Honduras team. Even though we were beaten, we all enjoyed a great game. :) The principal was very grateful and told us we were a blessing to her community and hoped that we could visit many more like theirs.

On the way home, we stopped for ice cream. It was a nice treat on a hot Honduran day! We ate dinner which included tilapia, head and eyes still attached! Then we went downtown for a spirit-filled church service full of clapping, dancing, singing in English and in Spanish. We all felt very welcome and connected to the people there. We performed the body skit which was related to the Pastor's message about being the Body of Christ.

After a rainstorm and devotions, we prepared for bed and a full day tomorrow where we will be going to two different schools; one for children who have undergone severe brain trauma and are deaf and mute and another school that helps serves meals and care for impoverished children.

Thanks for all of your support and prayers!

With love,
