"We all have someone who loves us, it is Jesus."
This was the song sung by Melvin and the community after the morning sermon. A bumpy ride took us through a mining town called Las Vegas. The mine provides most families with jobs. The top of the mountain tells a different story. This was the largest community this week. Staff in the medical clinic alone saw 300 people! What a day!
One family had walked for 2 1/2 hours and waited 5 hours with two small boys. Luckily this was day four and we had a system! It's been interesting to see the different illnesses in each village. The best part is that Friends of Barnabas is able to figure out what the needs are, the medications used most and what to bring back for the next visit.
Nurse Teri had a special experience today with a 9-year-old girl. She looked at her name tag and read it. It sounded like "Nurse Teddy." She was beginning to learn English in school. What a treat to have her say a few things to "Nurse Teddy." Teri asked what she wanted to do when she grows up. She quickly stated she wanted to be a doctor so she could help everyone in her community. Teri remembered that she had a small angel in her pocket that was given to her by a close friend who instructed her to give it to someone who needs it. Teri gave it to the girl and told her to keep it to help her go to med school. The girl held it tight and asked the translator how to say "I love you." She hugged Teri and said "I love you." She asked Teri if she would come back. Teri reassured her and said she would place a picture of her on her desk at work.
A few more prayer moments occurred today in the midst of the hustle to see patients. It's most important at times to take that moment when the Lord directs you simply to pray with a family. Again we realized today that sometimes that is all we have to offer.
Home again to rest, tell stories and spend a little time planning the next pranks played on each other through the night. Fun, crazy, hysterically funny team!
