Sunday

Today started with more humor and fun as we headed out for the zip line adventure for a little team bonding at Pulhapanzak Falls. What a great start to celebrating Judy's 70th birthday! Yes, she did the zip line!

Upon returning, we participated in a service commissioning us to be the hands and feet of Christ this week. We sang "Here I Am, Lord," anointed each others' hands with oil and received cross necklaces. As you may recall, the cross necklaces are given to us to share with someone in whom we see the face of Christ as we serve.

Following an amazing lunch, we began the assembly line of preparing more than 80,000 medications and packaging them for each community. We worked so well together listening to music, learning about each other, and telling funny stories with a few practical jokes. Remember we have only been together a little more than 24 hours. God is good!

After four hours of preparation for our first community, we toured the Friends of Barnabas house and stopped to sample a tree called Moringa tree. It's the most healing tree in the world. According to Nury, it has 7 times the Vitamin C of oranges, 4 times the calcium of milk, 3 times the potassium of bananas and 20 times the iron in spinach.

We learned of the amazing services provided here at the Friends of Barnabas compound; including post-op care for children accompanied by their parents after the cardiac and cleft lip/palate surgeries which occur yearly at local hospitals with volunteer teams from the US. Education, rehab and proper medications and food are provided so the children receive a chance of a full life.

Dinner was at a great outdoor restaurant with homemade root beer and delicious food followed by a wonderful birthday cake for Judy.

Mountain Medical Team Rockbridge will start field work tomorrow morning with an hour and a half ride to a village called Planes De Italia. We estimate seeing a large group of children and families. The nearest access to water is 8 km from the village. Pray that God will bring people to the clinics who need help the most. Anxious to get started!
