Unlike yesterday, where we served the largest village, today we visited Quebraditas, the smallest village for this week. It was a wonderful experience. We were able to see provide care for everyone who came and we made 31 referrals. This is a blessing. These referrals come back to the Barnabas house for further evaluation by Dra. Moncada and then go on to be seen by physicians at the hospitals in San Pedro Sula and perhaps even by specialists and surgeons. A referral from the Foundation opens the door to further care by Honduran doctors for adults. Most of the children needing further care have problems ranging from heart defects, cleft palates, and any long-term medication needs such as epilepsy, juvenile diabetes, perforated eardrums, and failure to thrive due to malnutrition.
It is wonderful we have been able to diagnose these problems for these people, but please, pray for them, because they have to come on their own will to be treated. Friends of Barnabas assists with the cost of procedures when needed. It is not a simple journey for families with few resources and great need.
The deworming saw 172 and fluoride saw 32.
The eye clinic saw 24 people and gave away 31 pairs of glasses.
The Dental clinic saw 23 patients and pulled 46 teeth.
Our mission this week of serving the population of Honduras is over, but our hearts are still here in this gorgeous environment and with these beautiful people. Many of us will return and our prayers will be with them always. One more day left, one more journal to come.
Buenos noches!
