Today was awesome!!
We visited the Village of Terreritos which hasn't been seen by a FOBF group for several years (the reason our numbers were so impressive). I'll start with the numbers; medical-309, dental 16 patients with 40 extractions, eyes-37, fluoride-3, vitamin A-47, and deworming-214!
We had many touching moments today. The dental clinic had several brave patients today, including one woman who had 13 teeth pulled!! They also had an 11 year old girl whose mother had ran away and left her an orphan, a very humbling moment.
There were several referrals today; One was a little boy with a cleft lip and palate. His mother had taken him to be seen by a group in Comayagua-they promised to help but never followed through. This mother did not even live in the village that
we visited today, but she heard we would be there and traveled by bus to meet us. The little boy will be referred and hopefully receive corrective surgery by the team in November. We also referred a little boy with a club foot into the extended care program with the FOBF.
At the end of the day we had a brief meeting in the church. Brent played the keyboard (missing half its keys) and led us in songs of praise. Hondurans joined us in this unique moment, it was a lovely thing to participate in and witness, joyful spirits worshipping together.
Our team is sad that our week is halfway over. We are enjoying each other's company while learning new things and having new experiences together. We will be visiting another large village tomorrow and are looking forward to being blessed by many
new people!
