  April 13 - April 21, 2013

Friday

Our final village to visit this week was Santa Ana. The community has at least 67 families. There has been electricity in the village since March 25 of 2012 (some may remember this from last year's April visit). There is a mix of latrines and flush toilets in the community. There is a school that includes kindergarten and 100 or more students. High School is taught via radio.

There is a health center in Trajeda, a one hour walk from the community. Family planning, medication, and some health education are available. Villagers are encouraged to use the hospital for emergencies. The primary agriculture is corn, beans, coffee and plantains.

This was our longest trip, at around one hour forty-five minutes on a relatively constant incline. I believe it was after 10am by the time we really got going. There was, and likely still is, much need in this community. We started with five medical clinic stations, which increased to seven after lunch since we had a late and somewhat slower start to the day, and as we dealt with some special cases. The room was literally full.

The numbers by the end of the day are as follows.

Ear Washes - 7

Eye Clinic - 35

Fluoride Treatments - 35

Dental Clinic - 69 patients and 88 extractions

Vitamin A - 35

De-worming - 156

Medical Clinic - 233

Lawrence and Ronnie gave crosses away today, and Mike gave devotion for the evening. He thanked Nury and the rest of the staff, on everyone's behalf, for their part in serving these communities (and of course, us). He spoke about the foundational purpose of our presence here, the love and healing power of God. He gave testimony regarding the adoption of their daughter, as well as recent changes in employment that reflect God's work in his life, among others. God is faithful and continues to lead and provide even when we don't understand.

We have had a blessed week and thank you for your cards and prayers as we have tried to share a little of God's grace with the Honduran people. Saturday will be a day of travel and tourism within Honduras, so I may share a little with you Saturday evening as well, if possible. Our Sunday will be long as we work our way back to the U.S. We covet your prayers during that time.

Regards,

R Scott Williams on behalf of the Danville Mountain Medical Mission Team
