Wednesday at Los Globos

Hello from Honduras to all of our friends and families. Today was Day 3 of Laurel Hill UMC Medical Mountain Mission Team travels. We made our trek to Los Globos. Melvin Martinez, one of our Honduran staff (maintenance and garden manager and chaplain) was the bus driver today. Elmer, the usual driver, was still not feeling his normal self. However, he accompanied us on the trip and was able to help out again in the eye clinic. Donaldo, another Honduran team member who works with us as a translator, treated the team on the bus to several hymns sung in Spanish. Melvin gustily joined in with him. This experience gave the team a great start to the day.
The trip to Los Globos was the first visit to this community by The Friends of Barnabas Foundation. The team was well received upon arrival. The clinics were set up in the schoolhouse and patients quickly began to line up.

Dr. Judy and her translator Ceci Harris began their day by seeing a 79 year old man who was blind, accompanied by his 78 year old wife. The man's name was Adan (yes, the same first name as our team dentist, Dr. Adan). The woman had very high blood pressure and also complained of angina, but was not taking her BP medicine. Dr. Judy gave this woman her cross, and asked her to make sure that she took her medications so that she could take care of Adan. Then, Ceci gave her cross to the Adan.
Dr. Adan treated a patient in the dental clinic today who had an out of the ordinary number of root tips in her lower jaw. After analyzing the situation, he determined that it would be best to remove them all at one time, which he did. Sutures were applied and appropriate medications were dispensed. Dr. Adan commented later that he appreciated the professionalism of team member Cindy Funk, who moved from the eye clinic to help out in the dental clinic today.

Theresa Duke shared her cross with a mother of five children. As Theresa examined the two month-old boy, she sensed that God wanted this child to have her cross. Theresa gave the cross to the mother and told her to give it to the boy when he was older. Theresa believes that this child will be special.
Towards the end of a rather warm day, additional medical clinic stations were added to help see as many people as possible in the limited time remaining before packing the bus and going back down the mountain. As usual, the team pitched in together, made quick adjustments, and continued to serve.

The evening at La Casa de Alfredo began with another very delicious Honduran meal. The beets that were served were a gift from the El Cedral community that was visited on Tuesday. Later, during devotion, Ceci Harris referenced 1 Corinthians 12:9 and spoke about our need to exercise faith. Believers have been given various gifts and it is important for these gifts to be exercised.
Our mission destination on Thursday, Day 4, will be Terrero Blanco. This will be another first time visit to a community by the Friends of Barnabas. We thank you for your prayers and ask that you continue daily. We wish you love and peace in the Name of Jesus Christ.
