A Few Thoughts from Ed & Peggy...

Success...  Sweet Success.... A Record Event

Wow, what an incredible community we live in.  Our customer appreciation day in support of our customers and our community was a huge success.  In fact the results were beyond our wildest dreams.  We knew last year's totals would be hard to beat.  We didn't just beat last years numbers...We destroyed them!!

food comp

toys

We collected 7244 lbs of food for the food bank (over twice as much as last year!)...4 1/2 overflowing totes for Toys for Tots (also twice as much as last year) and 71 pints of blood which is 22 pints more than last year!  We couldn't be happier or more exhausted. And all in 5 hours!!

We gave away 4 firearms and hundreds of prizes in support of three organizations that need help. We issued the challenge and you stepped up big time and our three primary benefactors are the big winners.  Thanks to everyone who participated and donated.

cad1 Also a big thank you to the vendors who showed up and were busy all day...Lisa Looper from Flashbang, Bev and Guy from Holsters Plus, Stacey from PWS and Troy from Springfield and Crimson Trace.  And our Swap Meet was bigger than ever...38 very diverse booths.

A huge thank you to Joseph Strain and his family for the awesome Bullwhip demos all morning.

Other unsung heroes who stepped up to join us in supporting this community include the Spokane Chiefs and The Coeur d'Alene Summer Theater.  Boomer the Chief's mascot was a huge hit with the kids and he never let the extreme heat dampen his spirits as he endured the bear costume in the 90 degree heat.

The CDA summer theater donated tickets to their Christmas program tribute to Frank Sinatra.  What a treat to be able to attend this outstanding professional theatrical performance.

Many radio stations say they support the community, but talk is cheap.  K102 Country Radio and specifically the guys from the Morning Stampede Jeff and Derik are the real deal.  These guys promoted our event for weeks in advance.  A special thanks to Derik Walker-K102 who made time in an already ridiculously hectic day to broadcast live from 10am to 1pm.

I am especially humbled by all of you who came to support the cause.  We all win with these events.  The community as a whole, certainly the three supported organizations, and of course Peggy and I win as we see our staff come together and epitomize the meaning of teamwork.  I am so proud of our entire staff as they showed their true metal.  We also want to thank the dozens of volunteers who helped us read range rules, run the Laser Shot, cook hotdogs, run games, watch the range, etc.  We couldn't have done it without you...thank you.

A word of thanks to Deb our manager... Imagine coming into a new position as manager and within weeks have to pull off an annual massive clean up day...then weeks later the largest event in our history...The Community Appreciation Day...now in 10 days we are hosting our National Performance 20 group at our facility and the greater CDA community.  Well, 2 down and one to go!  I am 1000 % sure she will pull off the Pro 20 Event the same way she has surpassed all our expectations with the first two.

Just goes to show you why she has hit the ground running in her new position and has never looked back.  Thanks Deb!!

The Latest News
Coming in September (sorry...October) ...An Awesome new class
Personal Assault Response Techniques (PART)

After two years of development we are very proud to offer our newest class "Personal Assault Response Techniques (PART)".  We believe this class will quickly become our most popular class ever.  This is the class that combines the skills and techniques necessary to survive the street assault or attack.

This class will include pre-attack  indicators, hand to hand defensive techniques designed to control your attacker and of course allow you to fight your way to your handgun.  This class is appropriate for all ages and skill levels.  Students must have a concealed carry permit or receive prior approval from the instructor.

Watch for the October schedule for the date.

TRUCK LOAD SAFE SALE

In anticipation of our Community Appreciation Event I purchased a Truck Load of Cannon Safes.  My motivation was not to make high margins but to offer a quality safe to our customers at below normal prices.  The one negative to the Customer Appreciation Event was that we only sold a few safes.

We do not have the space to store all these safes so we are going to hold the sale prices until the end of the month.  If you are in the market for a quality safe then compare these Cannon safes to what is available and you will find the true value at the retail price.  At the sale prices they can't be beat.

The 24 Gun Safe is only           $775.00

The 28 Gun Safe is only           $875.00

The Large 48 Gun Safe is only $999.00

Huge Surefire Flashlight Sale

While supplies last come in and take advantage of our Surefire Flashlight Giant Sale.  This fury sale is limited to the lights in stock.  If you ever wanted to own a Surefire...You will never find lower prices.

Many of these lights have just been introduced and we are selling them just above our cost.  Don't wait, they won't last long.

Gun Belts and more Gun Belts

I often see students drawing their handguns with difficulty.  Many have issues with the holster moving around on the belt.  This movement is often the result of a flimsy belt.  We have that problem solved with two new lines of leather belts designed specifically for holding a holster in place.  The belts are available in a number of styles to suit your taste for men and women.

Precision Bolt Rifles

We have never before stocked bolt rifles but in support of our new precision rifle class we are now stocking a variety of precision bolt rifles.  In stock we have arguably the most accurate out of the box rifles.  The Savage F110 bolt action 308 cal.   These rifles epitomize value.  Come in and see for yourself.

ALL NEW...Tactical Pistol (2-day)  August 23 & 24

fof1You've been asking for it so we have it scheduled.  It is the new version of our Tactical Pistol Class we have been working on for some time.

This is the most advanced pistol class taught anywhere in the region.  This is a two day class that requires students to conduct live fire exercises as well as Use of Force scenarios held in our tactical bay using our new modular walls and halls system.

This modular system allows us to create hallways and doorways along with corners that must be negotiated by the students. Each student will participate in at least 6 scripted exercises that may require any level of response from less lethal to deadly force.

Hunting Sim Class Is back in time for the Season!

Offered twice in September...the 3rd and 25th...5:30-7:30pm

lasershotDue to the popularity of last year's Hunter Simulation program we are again offering our laser simulation hunter program.   This is a great opportunity to test your skills and verify all your hunting ethics and safe hunting practices.  Parents, what better way to test your young hunters ability to assess the shot and demonstrate their firearm and hunting skills.  This class does NOT replace hunter safety classes offered by the State.

The class is limited to participants 10 years and older.  This is a very realistic system and participants under 10 years old just don't benefit from the class and often view the process as more of a video game.  We want to make sure we maintain a true learning environment with this program.

We experienced a lot of no-shows last year when the program was free.  So this year we have decided to charge a nominal fee of $10.00.  I guess it is that old saying of if it's free it can't be worth much and showing up after signing up is no real priority.

"OC" Pepper Spray Class Offered Sept 3rd

So many people are carrying OC spray for protection these days.  However, all OC products are not created equal.   In addition to product quality concerns we must address the legal and liability issues associated with OC for defense.  How about safety concerns in general.  We have completely restructured our OC class and the result is a 3-4 hour comprehensive OC personal safety elements class.

sabre Have you ever been awakened by a startling sound during the middle of the night? How about the last time you walked across a dark parking lot or felt that eerie feeling while walking to your car in a parking garage? Remember the stranger following too closely behind you? What about the relief you felt after it was over? What if you had been attacked?

Want to feel more secure and less vulnerable? You can become a victim or you can take control of the situation. If you answered yes to any of the above, then you need to take this program and learn survival skills which may save your life!

Monthly Tip...

Street Wise....or Not!

With the popularity of our CCW classes, I thought I would share with you some tips related to carrying in the "Public Eye" (in public).  Surviving on the street is much different than what is often taught in the classroom.  Below, are a number of suggestions that have all proven themselves through my own real-world experience and trial-and-error testing.  Don't underestimate the importance of how your lifestyle and dress relate to the tactics and skill sets you decide to implement or put into your defensive toolbox.

Suits
Real life is not like movies or television. When you're in a real-life critical incident does someone stop the action and have a stunt man take your place?  I can't tell you how many times I've seen civilians in suits with a belt that's too narrow and thin to support their gear.

And what about the suit jacket? A belt holstered or shoulder holstered weapon requires a cover over your weapon in public, whether it's some type of jacket, sweatshirt, sweater or shirt. What's the problem with the jacket? There's no problem if you're trained, practiced and competent in drawing your weapon from underneath it, but most civilians don't train this way. Do you wear a jacket during firearms training? Why not?  And what do you wear on your feet when you wear a suit?

Shoes

What shoes would you choose if you knew you were heading into a gunfight? If you must wear an Oxford shoe (low cut), make sure it laces and does not have all-leather soles. All-leather soles provide no traction. Ditto for Western-style boots. In a fight it's like you're standing on ice. And finally, my observations about shoes apply to women, too. If you wouldn't wear Gucci loafers, why would you wear high heels?

Ties

Ties are my next bone of contention. Would you wear a noose to a fist fight? I learned this lesson back in elementary school.  I know there's no way you would wear a clip-on tie, right? Well, that's your decision and you'll have to live with it.

Train as you work, work as you train.

To properly draw a pistol from under a jacket, it takes two moves, not just a simple gripping action. The first move sweeps the jacket back and out of the way, past the pistol. Then, as your shooting hand comes forward from the sweep, you grip and draw. Tip: Always stow your keys in the weapon-side pocket of your jacket. This will add some weight and momentum to the sweeping motion.

When wearing a pullover, instead of sweeping back, forcefully pull the pullover up and over the pistol, then grip the pistol on the weapon-return motion. In both situations, don't attempt to grip the pistol until the garment clears the weapon or you will wrap it around your pistol grips. Learn how to use both hands in combination or separately to do this. You never know what the real world will throw at you, so practice each method.  Tip: If you wear a shoulder holster, use your non-shooting hand to pull open your jacket to gain access to your pistol.

Test Your Gear

You must test each and every piece of equipment you carry or own to see if it will perform properly under stressful situations. Don't rely on manufacturer advertisements or a sales pitch. In the SSS class I encourage my students to carry as they do on the street.  If their gear fails them and they complain about having to get new equipment, I tell them it's better to discover this in training than on the street.
